A Cafe or A Playground?

in #foodphotography7 years ago (edited)

Sometimes, when my student cancels class or I happen to finish class earlier, I would sometimes pop in a cafe or sometimes I write my post-of-the-day in my car. There was this day when I was very eagerly looking for waffles, and I wanted savory ones. Like many of you, I sometimes like to check out hipster cafes too but now I pick those which are conveniently on my way. Lucky for me, there is this cafe in my neighborhood called Playground Coffeery, thus I stopped by to get a bite on my way back.

The brightly-lit up sign of the cafe's name on the ceiling. The white box-like object on the left is actually the air conditioner.

How is Playground Coffeery like?

Is this like a giant playground where the kids can be running and playing while we eat? Yes, we have cafes with that concept in town but not this one. This is a rather quiet cafe where I think and see people like to come and do their work alone. It also has a reading corner with lots of books to choose from and also a Jenga game.

Let my pictures do some talking for me:

An interesting sign at the counter, spotted as I was placing my order.

How this cafe defines Playground.

Interesingly, they used this traditional Malay game board called CONGKAK as part of their deco.

I also like how they did up the pipes to spell the name of their cafe, pretty classic to me.

There is also a smoking area which is non air-conditioned at the back area, separated by a glass door. There are also tables, chairs and sofa and a giant swing in this area. When I was there, there were some people doing their work on their laptops too, enjoying the cool breeze after the rain while listening to the sound of the comforting raindrops.

The giant swings, which probably are the main things why this cafe is called Playground. Not sure if they had more of these back then when it first opened.

I chose a seat at the comfy corner, because I like to curl up my legs to write if possible. I ordered a waffle with chicken ham, cheese and pineapple. Boy, was that delicious though it looked and sounded simple. However, I just cannot seem to recall its name.

My very delicious waffle which I enjoyed a lot.

If you have been following my posts, you may have known that I like chocolate and also Matcha. So, there is this choco-matcha drink in their list of hot beverages. I have tried it before when I visited this cafe some time ago. I went back for the same drink and it was still as good!

My Choco-Matcha drink.

I spent about an hour there. The food and drink came quite fast. It was a good place for my thoughts to flow because there was nearly no interruptions from anyone or anything. I super appreciate the solitude I had, which was also my purpose there. Because of that, I managed to complete my post in a shorter expected time, woo-hoo! I needed not burn the midnight oil writing a post too for that day, Yayyyy!

Making myself comfortable as I whacked my food and drink while crafting a post that day.

The signs I saw when I looked up from the comfy corner say that we can do anything, just don't sleep in this cafe.

The Down Side of the Cafe

The food and drinks are a little bit pricey to me. It was RM18(USD 4.67) for the Waffle and RM13 (USD 3.37) for the choco-matcha drink. But I may still come back once in a while since they taste good.

Besides that, the lighting of the cafe is on the dimmer side. It does help the customers to feel relax but if I were to be working, I prefer it to be a little brighter, though this is just my preference. It is very suitable for winding down after a long day.

What I like about Playground Coffeery

The songs they played were soothing and not too noisy. The whole place was quiet enough, maybe due to lower influx of customers for now.
It is a very good environment to work or do writing, actually. They serve both savory and sweet waffles, that itself will make me come again to try. Besides that, I think they have some simple pasta too and cakes. Of course for their drink selection, there are different types of coffee, caffeine and non-caffeine, which is suitable for me who get heart palpitations but still want to take some sips.

I will be back!

I always have a thing for humourous quotes or signs in cafes. YOU CAN'T MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT COFFEE! Was entertained by this sign outside before I left.

what a nice cafe , i also want to visit it when i got the time .

Sure, go visit it again some time, @hooiyewlim!

@happycrazycon thank you for curation. Btw, this Playground Coffeery looks interesting :)

Thank you for visiting my post @seckorama :)

HAHAHA, I literally LOL-ed at the last quote, you cannot make everyone happy because you are not coffee!!! Thanks for sharing, @happycrazycon! Saw some rustic elements in this place by looking at your pictures.

Hahaha I love that quote too, @heartscally! This place is a little gloomy but the quotes changed the atmosphere!

Sure it did! :)

Looks like a great cafe. Too bad can't take a nap there.

Hahaha @legendchew, perhaps it encourages us to take naps at home instead! :)

It is very noticeable that the place needs more cleaning and probably they need to refurbish too. I have to agree on the lighting side. Sleeping is not allowed but the lighting is warm and cozy and dim enough to make want to go to sleep.

I truly agree with you @leeart!!! Just that I am trying to have a habit of highlighting the good but not emphasizing too much on the bad. I did tip them off a bit actually.

I like your attitude. I like you already as a person :D I need more people like that who has the positive side in all things and makes me see things in a better light. Please let me rub off of that goodness! :D

that looks like a really fun cafe @happycrazycon. I wish we had one like that near us.

I have started going to cafes to write blog posts but the last time I went to my local favourite I couldn't get the wifi to work so, when I go home, I'm going to have to find another one. 😊

Hahaha @gillianpearce you get me! Yeah I am also there for the Wi-Fi but this cafe makes us pay for the Wi-Fi. So I used my phone data instead.

I like this cafe cos it is near and quiet. Hope you find one nearby yourself too :)

I'm in luck @happycrazycon. There are many cafes around here that I can work in and they seem to have fixed the wifi in the one that I had a problem with.

I was there yesterday and it was fine!

Have a lovely weekend! 😊

Beautiful. Amazing. Very Creative Library Cafe. Reminds me of some of the coffee shops I visited during my five years in Saigon, Vietnam. Get kids to read while drinking and eating. I love it. I love coffee hehe. Thanks for sharing. I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold. Happy Easter 2018.

Thanks Oatmeal :) Yeah it is good to see books to help cultivate the reading habit again. I'm sure the cafes you visited were fabulous.

Thanks. Great. How are you?

This place is the coolest. Thank you for sharing, great pics and an insightful review.

Thanks for coming by with your support @xramonahx :)

I think even if i am a coffee I also cant make everyone happy especially you because you love chocolate. hehe. So nice of you to make a blog for Playground. It's been awhile I last visited this place.

Hahaha you being funny, @iamjadeline. Thanks for always seeing every little things that I probably don't even notice. Yeah I haven't been for a while too. When I was thinking of waffles, I suddenly remember them!

I read this post more for your personable style of writing than for information about the cafe. You demonstrated many contrasts of the cafe to your own personal preferences and that is what made it interesting for me.

The pictures were also good and they were not sterile presentations of the cafe. Nice, but not professional and that makes your presentation personal, also. I've read many reviews on this site and others where the author really does a third person job on the subject of the review, and that shows a certain lack of perspective. Your review has a very definite perspective, one that intrigues the reader to the very end.

Write on.

wow, what an elaborate comment for my simple post @digitalfirehouse. Appreciate this so much. Glad you enjoyed it. I don't think I covered everything because I only ordered a waffle and a drink, yet to really review their food. Hopefully one day.

Thanks. I just love to write. Once I get going, sometimes it's hard to stop. :)
