"Tinolang Halaan" or Clam Soup - Food Photography

IMG_20180211_184259.jpg

Growing up in the mountainous town, as a young a boy we were deprived of eating seafoods. We can only eat seafoods during special occasions like town fiestas, birthdays, christmas and other holidays. Unlike in the coastal areas, seafoods in our town are an expensive and rare commodity. In other words, eating seafoods is considered a luxury.

Now that I have left my hometown and since im currently working, I can already eat seafoods whenever and wherever I want.

Let me share one of my most favorite seafood dishes. In Cebu, there are lots of restaurants serving the tinolang halaan or clam soup.

The tinolang halaan is usually cooked by mixing tomatoes, onions, ginger, green chili, spring onions and some salt to add taste in boiling water. Let it boil for 5-10 minutes until the clam is cooked.

The soup tastes minty due to the spring onions and ginger. The clam meat is also sweet but this will depend if the clam is fresh or not. The fresher the clam, the sweeter the taste.

Clams are a good source of iodine and protein. Breastfeeding mothers usually are advised to eat this dish because some say that the halaan soup stimulates milk production.

Not only is the halaan soup tasty but it is also nutritious an healthy!
