We got him! Helder Costa signs for the Mighty Whites

in #football5 years ago (edited)

Finally today, the news we had been waiting for. Portuguese International, Helder Costa signed on a 4-year deal from Wolves. The first year on loan after which he becomes a permanent Leeds player for a further 3 year contract. Rather an odd arrangement but it seems that's the order of the day!

Helder Costa, 25 signed for Wolves for a club record fee in 2016 from Benfica after a successful loan period. He went on to set the championship on fire, helping Wolves to promotion to the Premier League and last season, helping them to a brilliant 7th placed finish as well as making his international debut for Portugal against Scotland. Playing as a centre forward which he plays as well as his normal role as a speedy winger, he scored a goal in their 3-1 defeat of Scotland at Hamden.

The news from the Leeds website

Now he has stepped up a class to play for Leeds and we are hoping for good things with his proven ability in the Championship. This is the marquee signing we had been waiting for and the excitement has been ramped up a notch for the new season.

Welcome to Leeds. You're going to love it!!

Other strange news being reported today is a story that Pontus has been banned from the training ground over a bust-up with Marcelo Bielsa. Still waiting to get some confirmation on this but it's not too far fetched to be actually true. Pontus has been developing a bit of an ego recently and there have been a few disgruntled murmurings from the Elland Road faithful. There is a very fine line between confidence and ego and at Leeds, no one, whether it is a fan, player or manager is bigger than the club. We are not 'united' for nothing.

Still a month to go before the start of the new season but only two weeks before the friendlies start!! Can't wait!!

I know this is unrelated, but where did Allan Smith disappear to, I used to like him back in the day.

Ahhh he left Leeds and committed a cardinal sin and went to Man U when we went bankrupt. We needed the money though so not his fault. He badly broke his leg there and never really got back to his best. After that, he went to Newcastle but didn't do too well and then off to MK Dons and played for them and then to Notts County where he was player-manager for a while. They have just been demoted from the League and I'm not sure if he is still with them or not, he's probably pushing 40 by now lol.....how time flies my friend :-( !!

I had to look up Google for another set of words that have a similar meaning to "cardinal sin" and I was not disappointed hehehe.!!
So kinda saying he made a serious error of judgment hahaha. I did watch him get messed up in that game(I am Man United fan!!!!) and I do not know where he disappeared too !!!

Decent bit of business and with that Clarke loanded back after the sale to spurs leeds are looking pretty good challenging for promotion

They are mate but I can't shake off that 'what should have been' feeling yet! Wait till the friendlies start and the excitement will build up. It HAS to be this year though! I'm 53 and worry I will never see any more halcyon nights playing in the European competitions!

You've been quite close in the last couple of years it's agonising, there were a few teams that won promotion that I felt didn't deserve it and wasted our time. I used to love watching Leeds since the Radebe days (since I'm South African). I can't imagine what it's like having been a fan for so long and seeing your best players poached every time you try to rebuild.
