EPL: Chelsea Ease Past Foxes At King Power

Things are obviously not going well for Brendan Rodgers and his lads at the King Power as they succumbed to another sour 0-3 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the early kick off on Saturday of game week 12.

Goals from Antonio Rudiger, N'Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic condemned the foxes to their second successive league defeat at home, coming after their 0-2 loss to Arsenal two match days ago.

Rodgers switched to a 3-4-3 formation with two enforced changes in Youri Tielemans and Ricardo Pereira through injury, who were replaced by Marc Albrighton and Daniel Amartey.

Thomas Tuchel was boosted by the return of Timo Werner from injury, but the German was only fit enough to make the bench, along with Marcos Alonso, while Tuchel also made two changes from his team that was held by Burnley just before the international break.

Tuchel's men almost went ahead in the 4th minute of play through Ben Chilwell. Jorginho took a quick free kick over the top to read the run of Chilwell on the left flank while the Leicester players were still looking to settle. The former Leicester defender got to end of it and through on goal. His effort on the half volley came off the top of the cross bar and over.

There was no deny the log leaders 10 minutes later from a set piece. Chilwell's corner from the right side was met by a header at the near post post by Rudiger, whose header went past Kasper Schmeichel in goal to give Chelsea the lead.

Jorginho almost spelt doom for Leicester again in the 17th minute when his ball over the Foxes' defence freed Kante, whose shot was saved by Schmeichel. Kai Havertz was unfortunate to see his rebound charged down by Caglar Soyuncu.

The home team looked to have pulled themselves back into the game seven minutes after being let off as Ademola Lookman put the ball into the back of the Chelsea net. Jamie Vardy ran at the Chelsea defence, before releasing Albrighton, whose cross was met by a sliding effort by Lookman, who was flagged offside as Chelsea's lead remained intact.

In the 28th minute, it was two goals to the goods for Chelsea as Kante scored a stunner against his former team with whom he won a premier league tittle. He collected the ball from Reece James on the right and dashed into acres of space before releasing a left-footed effort into the right side of the post beyond Schmeichel.

The French international almost doubled his tally 10 minutes after his goal. Chilwell sent a cross into the Leicester box, but Havertz and Kante collided, causing the latter's header to fall tamely to Schmeichel.

The hosts started the second half with two changes as Rodgers brought on Kelechi Iheanacho and James Maddison in place of Lookman and Harvey Barnes as they looked to drag themselves back into the fixture.

Schmeichel had to be on top of his game to keep his team's hope alive in the 53rd minute, when he produced a reaction save to deny Chilwell, who had been played in by Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The England youngster almost himself got a goal just after the hour mark when he wriggled his way past a number of Leicester challenges, before curling an effort into the far corner that sailed just over the post.

Leicester failed to really test the Chelsea goal and their first real threat came three minutes after the hour mark. Amartey saw his long range drive from about 30 yards heading towards the top corner, but Edouard Mendy was not having any of it as he produced a fine save to tip over the bar.

Vardy should have reduced the deficit two minutes after as he headed a cross from Maddison over the bar from close range. At the other end, Hakim Ziyech almost combined with fellow substitute, Christian Pulisic as the Moroccan's cross was met on the near post by Pulisic, who dragged his low effort beside the right post.

Both of them would combine again in the 71st minute and this time, a better outcome than the first. Trevor Chalobah carried the ball from the back before releasing Ziyech on the right, who turned Soyuncu and sent a low cross into the box. Pulisic controlled before firing past Schmeichel for Chelsea's third, obviously killing the game off.

Three goals should have become five as Chelsea saw two more goals were chalked off for offside against Chilwell in the space of three closing stage minutes. The former Fox was offside when he squared the ball to Pulisic to tap home, before being offside again in the build up to James' goal that was also chalked off.

In between the two disallowed Chelsea goals was a brilliant effort to ensure his clean sheet remained intact by Mendy as he stood his ground to make a save from Maddison's deflected effort.

Concluding Thoughts

Slowly but steadily, Chelsea continue to stamp their authority as favorites for the premier league title as they increased their lead at the top of the log temporarily to seven points before Liverpool's game against Arsenal.

Leicester definitely need to find a solution to their problems very quickly as this was their second loss in two league games at home and have picked up just one point in the last three league games.

More worryingly, the have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 18 premier league games, last doing so in their 1-0 win against Wolves on match day 1.
