Biodiversity(Bahamas turaco at the blink of extinction).

It is good to preserve our natural environment and biodiversity and save it from the state of continuous degradation. The rate at which the animals and tree species are been used should be duly checked as such this platform, we should endeavor to contribute through education to save it in our own little way.
Bahamas turaco, which is a very beautiful and colorful bird incline to the localities of Ijim and Kilum mountain forest areas is at the verge of extinction.

This bird is restricted to areas with cold climates, and feed most especially on the fruits of Prunus africana, a medicinal tree that was introduced to help in the domain of restoring the biodiversity loss, protection of water catchment areas, timber, alternative source of income.

The multi colored bird is endangered for varied reasons, although it greatly attracts tourists to these areas thereby generating revenue and jobs to guides. However, it is first and foremost been hunted for its feathers. The red feathers are used in the region to decorate traditional title holders such as Nchindas, also for its meat or game, for income generation etc.

In order to guarantee the continuous existence of this bird, the cultivation of Prunus plantations be encouraged, its hunting also checked or reduced through education and sensitization. In this way its population will be increased.
