Por fin algo que vale la pena comentar despues de tantos rumores sin base que caen en bochinche que solo sirven para llenar paginas web y canales de YouTube, la confirmacion oficial de Bottas y Perez como pilotos de Cadillac para el 2026 es una noticia que realmente tiene sustancia y merece analisis serio, bueno yo tampoco que soy un experto pero me entretiene y es algunas de las satisfacciones de ser fanatico de un deporte poder opinar, no como esas especulaciones que salen cada semana diciendo que tal piloto se va a tal equipo y al final no pasa nada. La verdad es que esta decision me parece muy acertada desde varios puntos de vista, primero por que ambos pilotos traen una experiencia que ningun rookie podria aportar, segundo por que conocen perfectamente como funcionan los equipos de punta, Bottas viene de Mercedes donde estuvo en la epoca dorada con Hamilton y Perez viene de Red Bull donde vivio los años mas dominantes de Verstappen, esa informacion y conocimiento interno es invaluable para un equipo nuevo como Cadillac. No me sorprende para nada que hayan elegido experiencia sobre juventud, la realidad es que cuando eres un equipo completamente nuevo en Formula 1 no te puedes dar el lujo de tener pilotos que todavia estan aprendiendo, necesitas gente que ya sepa exactamente que hacer en cada situacion, que pueda dar feedback preciso sobre el auto y que entienda la politica interna de los equipos de F1, algo que solo se aprende despues de muchos años en el paddock.

Bottas siempre fue un piloto subestimado en mi opinion, la gente se olvida que este hombre le gano varias carreras a Hamilton cuando estaban de compañeros de equipo, que podia hacer pole position practicamente cuando se lo proponia y que nunca dio problemas internos en Mercedes, era el compañero perfecto para Hamilton por que sabia cuando atacar y cuando apoyar al equipo para el campeonato de constructores. Mercedes cometio un error enorme al dejarlo ir, el mismo Hamilton pidio que se quedara por que sabia lo valioso que era tener a alguien como Bottas de compañero, pero la presion mediatica y la necesidad de promover a Russell los llevo a tomar esa decision que a la larga no tal ves tan conveniente como pensaban por que Russell a difierencia de Bottas solo buscaba hundir a Hamilton. En Alfa Romeo y despues en Stake, Bottas demostro que aun tenia velocidad pero el auto simplemente no daba para mas, ahora en Cadillac va a tener la oportunidad de demostrar que todavia tiene mucho que ofrecer al deporte, especialmente en un ambiente donde no va a tener la presion de ser el segundo piloto de un campeon del mundo, va a poder correr libremente y enfocarse en desarrollar el equipo desde cero.

Con Perez la situacion es diferente pero igual de interesante siendo un piloto que fue completamente destruido psicologicamente por Verstappen despues de Monaco 2023, esa carrera a mi opinion marco el inicio del fin de su tiempo en Red Bull por que a partir de ahi nunca pudo recuperar la confianza ni el ritmo que habia mostrado en sus primeras temporadas con el equipo, si habian varias regulaciones que cambiaron como el sistema de frenada y luego vinieron los rumores que corrian autos distintos, un mundo de conspiraciones en contra de Perez practicamente que suele pasar mucho y es cliche de Formula 1. Pero hay que recordar que antes de llegar a Red Bull, Perez era considerado uno de los mejores pilotos en autos de la mitad de la parrilla, ganaba carreras imposibles como la de Bahrain 2020 con Racing Point uno de los videos mas famosos de Formula 1 en Youtube ya que parece una pelicula como gano esa carerra, entre otras ocaciones que subia al podio en situaciones caoticas y era famoso por su capacidad de cuidar los neumaticos mejor que casi cualquier otro piloto en la parrilla, esas habilidades no desaparecen tan rapido pero no se como se sentira volver nuevamente y en algun momento tener que enfrentar a Verstappen en la pista. Lo que paso en Red Bull fue que lo pusieron en una situacion imposible, esperaban que igualara a Verstappen que en ese momento cuanod estaba en su mejor nivel historico, manejando un auto diseñado especificamente para el estilo de manejo de Max, obviamente Perez no iba a poder competir en esas condiciones y ya esta demostrado que el problema no es el piloto del segundo auto sino el mismo auto de Red Bull que ya ni a Verstappen le funciona, pero eso no significa que sea un mal piloto, solo significa que no era la situacion correcta para el.

No hay que descartar completamente la posibilidad de que hagan algo especial aka el milagro, la historia de Formula 1 esta llena de equipos nuevos que sorprendieron a todos, el caso mas famoso obviamente es Brawn GP que llego en 2009 y se llevo ambos campeonatos en su primera y unica temporada, aunque hay que aclarar que Brawn tenia la ventaja de heredar todo el trabajo de desarrollo que Honda habia hecho antes de retirarse del deporte. Cadillac no va a tener esa ventaja pero si tiene el respaldo economico de General Motors y la experiencia de gente como Graeme Lowdon que ya sabe como manejar un equipo de Formula 1, asi que las posibilidades de hacer algo decente.

Bottas y Perez van a tener que adaptarse a estos nuevos autos igual que todos los demas pilotos, pero su experiencia les va a dar una ventaja importante para entender rapidamente como extraer el maximo rendimiento de la nueva tecnologia, ademas de que podran guiar a los ingenieros de Cadillac con feedback basado en su conocimiento de como trabajaban Mercedes y Red Bull en situaciones similares. La edad de ambos pilotos, 35 años los dos, no deberia ser un problema considerando que Hamilton sigue ganando carreras a los 40 y Alonso continua siendo competitivo a los 43, la experiencia puede compensar perfectamente cualquier pequña perdida de reflejos que pudieran tener, especialmente en una categoria donde la inteligencia tactica y el manejo de situaciones complicadas son tan importantes como la velocidad pura.
