George Russell just took pole in Singapore and the craziest thing about all this is that the guy doesn't even have a signed contract for next year with Mercedes, so imagine the level of pressure the Brit has negotiating with Toto Wolff while at the same time he has to prove he's worth every penny he's asking for, not just anyone can handle that pressure and go out on track to do two perfect laps in Q3 where the first one was already enough for pole but the bastard improves by 7 thousandths more just because he can, just because he wants to send Toto a message that he's missing out on something big if he doesn't give him what he wants, basically George is telling Mercedes to step it up or they're going to regret it now the truth is that right now only Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren have highly competitive cars but Russell's thing is talent. The most interesting thing about all this is that Verstappen finished second almost two tenths behind George, very close but not close enough, Max was frustrated because he felt he had pole in his hands until he ran into Lando on his last flying lap and that's where everything got screwed up, well I don't think exactly but he was on his way there, Max was climbing in the first two sectors and suddenly Lando appears moving slowly coming into the final chicane and well Max had to lift off the throttle and abandoned the lap, then GP tells him over the radio "you can thank your mate" that cost you pole and Max just responds that he'll remember it, so we already know that Max doesn't forgive these things and Lando just made himself an enemy at the worst possible moment when he's fighting for his first world championship, if you don't believe me just ask Checo what happened to him in Interlagos when Max didn't give him the point for what he had done in Monaco that season, The internet doesn't forget doesn't forgive and neither does Verstappen.

McLaren simply didn't have the pace this weekend and that's super weird because this circuit is supposed to be perfect for them, both Oscar and Lando finished third and fifth respectively but the difference is that Oscar at least managed to get into the top three while Lando finished behind Kimmy Antonelli who is in his first season with Mercedes, that has to hurt quite a bit for Lando especially because in FP1 FP2 and FP3 he was flying on track, now that's the problem with comparing practice against Quali, but when the moment of truth came in Q3 he simply couldn't deliver, Andrea Stella came out to say that the car wasn't handling the bumps and kerbs as well as last year when Lando won from pole right here in Singapore, turns out McLaren stopped developing the MCL39 a while ago and now other teams like Red Bull that kept bringing upgrades caught up to them and even passed them in some aspects, which sounds like bs to me because Verstappen still won last season. Lando also came out complaining that he wasn't feeling well, that he was sick the previous days and that the car had too much understeer and that the rear tires were wearing out too fast, but honestly every time Lando opens his mouth lately it's to complain about something, if it's not the car it's his health or it's the team or it's anything else, the guy can't simply admit that he had a bad day and that's it, there always has to be an excuse and that's not world champion behavior honestly.

What did surprise me and makes me happy was Kimmy Antonelli finishing fourth, the rookie is in his first season he had never raced in Singapore in any category and he goes out to qualify ahead of Lando Norris who supposedly is fighting for the championship, that says a lot about Kimmy's talent and also says a lot about Mercedes that brought a new front wing that flexes depending on the corners and gave them less aerodynamic drag on the straights and more downforce in the corners, that modification was key for George and Kimmy to dominate the first sector where Mercedes was consistently faster than everyone else including Verstappen who was only 1 tenth slower but that tenth at the end of the day is the difference between pole and second place, Kimmy reminds me a bit of what Piastri was in his first season. George in the press conference after qualifying said that he doesn't even know where that lap came from, that in Q2 and Q3 everything started to flow and the car simply responded to everything he asked for, George drives with a very aggressive style taking corners with the steering wheel almost straight and using a lot of the rear end of the car to rotate, it's a style that they compare to Ayrton Senna's in his time and when George is in his zone he's practically impossible to beat in qualifying the bad thing is that it's not all the time and well I'd say it's more Mercedes' fault than Russell's, the problem is going to be tomorrow in the race because that aggressive style isn't easy to maintain for 60 laps with full tanks and tires that keep degrading.

The other story of the day was Ferrari that once again disappointed finishing sixth and seventh with Hamilton ahead of Leclerc by a hair, Charles came out super frustrated saying it was a shitty weekend and that they made changes to the car that made it worse instead of better, Ferrari brought modifications to the rear wing and beam wing but nothing worked and they ended up further from the podium than they should be on a street circuit that supposedly favors them. Recently there's been a lot of rumors on the internet about Leclerc's possible exit but where to?? Toto most likely stays with Russell and Kimi, Red Bull with Verstappen and Tsunoda so where to? the prospect teams, meaning Williams, Audi, Aston Martin already have their fixed drivers too, I really don't see where Leclerc could go to practically ask for help from that torture that is Ferrari. Hamilton also complained but in a more subtle way saying that they as a team need to improve the processes in the pit lane because he's losing temperature in the tires and that's costing him performance, it's interesting to see how Lewis is already starting to distance himself from the team referring to them as "they" instead of "we" which usually is a sign that things aren't going well internally, Ferrari has seven more races to fix this SF25 disaster but honestly I don't think they'll manage it, we've been all year with the same porpoising problems and lack of aerodynamic downforce and they still can't find the solution, well at least not one that disqualifies them for running the car too low.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting to see how Max attacks at the start because we know he never drives cautiously, if Max has even a millimeter of space he's going to stick the car on the inside in turn one without thinking twice, the problem is that the dirty part of the track is on his side and that's going to complicate his life quite a bit because he's not going to have initial grip, plus George is on the clean side and has the advantage of pole so he's going to be able to cover any attempt from Max on the brakes, Oscar is third and he's also going to be lurking for any mistake Max makes so the first lap is going to be pure chaos, here the most advantageous option for Max is that somehow Oscar attacks first before Max and when George tries to defend well Max makes the pass but if he launches to attack first I think he has less chance, I think it's let Oscar attack or defend his position and try to beat the Mercedes on race pace. If George manages to keep the lead at the start I think he's going to win the race Canada style where he simply disappears into the horizon and nobody catches him, Max is going to have to work magic with strategy and hope for a safety car that gives him a free stop but on a circuit where it's almost impossible to overtake it's going to be very difficult for him to recover positions if he loses places at the start, McLaren should score enough points to get closer in the constructors championship but in drivers things get more complicated because Oscar is ahead of Lando on the grid and if he finishes ahead in the race too well the pressure on Lando is going to increase exponentially, it's the perfect moment to see where the papaya rules bullshit stands now that Oscar and Lando are fighting for points, mask vs hair.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣀⣀⡤⠐⠒⠂⠀⠐⠄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
