Chapter 14 The Hidden Legacy

Lucien stepped into the passage, his breath short, his footsteps echoing against the stone walls. Behind him, Hubert hastily sealed the secret entrance, murmuring an incantation under his breath. Silence fell, heavy, broken only by the frantic beating of Lucien’s heart.

— "Where are we going?" he asked, peering into the darkness ahead.

Hubert lit an enchanted lantern, casting flickering shadows on the walls carved with ancient symbols.

— "To the Chamber of the Legacy," he replied. "The most sacred place in the Kingdom of Secrets. The place where Eldrin left his final message."

A wave of apprehension washed over Lucien. Every step he took led him further away from the life he had known. He was no longer just a historian searching for mysteries—he had become a key player in the greatest secret of all time.

The tunnel suddenly opened into a vast circular chamber, carved into the rock with almost supernatural precision. At its center stood a crystal pedestal, upon which rested an ancient book, sealed with golden markings. Surrounding the room, intricate frescoes told the kingdom’s story—Eldrin’s founding, the discovery of the secret of transmutation, the prosperity that followed… and then the looming threat that had cast its shadow over them.

Lucien stepped closer to the pedestal, his gaze locked onto the sealed grimoire. He could feel a strange energy pulsing in the air, as if the object itself was calling to him.

— "This is where everything is decided," Hubert whispered.

Lucien reached out for the book. The moment his fingers brushed against the seal, a blinding light flooded the chamber. The frescoes came alive, their images shifting and moving along the walls.

He saw Eldrin, hunched over his work, forging the first magical gold coins. He saw shadows—hooded figures creeping through the night, ready to seize the secret for themselves.

Then, a voice echoed through the chamber, strong and clear, shattering the silence:

— "He who breaks this seal accepts the burden of knowledge. But every secret comes at a price."

Lucien hesitated. Was he truly ready to bear such a responsibility? Did the fate of the kingdom really rest in his hands?

He exchanged a glance with Hubert, then, heart pounding, he firmly placed his fingers on the seal and spoke the words he now knew were inevitable:

— "The secret is the key."

The seal shattered in a golden flash.

Eldrin’s lost knowledge was about to be revealed.

Chapitre 14

L’Héritage Caché

Lucien s’enfonça dans le passage, le souffle court, ses pas résonnant contre les parois de pierre. Derrière lui, Hubert referma précipitamment l’entrée secrète, scellant le passage avec une incantation à peine murmurée. Le silence retomba, lourd, seulement troublé par les battements affolés du cœur de Lucien.

— "Où allons-nous ?" demanda-t-il en scrutant l’obscurité devant eux.

Hubert alluma une lanterne enchantée, projetant des ombres dansantes sur les murs sculptés de symboles anciens.

— "Vers la chambre de l’Héritage," répondit-il. "L’endroit le plus sacré du Royaume des Secrets. Là où Eldrin a laissé son dernier message."

Lucien sentit une vague d’appréhension l’envahir. Chaque pas qu’il faisait l’éloignait un peu plus de la vie qu’il avait connue. Il n’était plus un simple historien en quête de mystères, il était devenu un acteur du plus grand secret du monde.

Le tunnel déboucha soudain sur une immense salle circulaire, creusée dans la roche avec une précision presque surnaturelle. Au centre trônait un piédestal de cristal, sur lequel reposait un livre ancien, fermé par un sceau doré. Autour de la pièce, des fresques détaillées racontaient l’histoire du royaume : la fondation par Eldrin, la découverte du secret de la transmutation, la prospérité qui en découla… puis la menace qui s’abattit sur eux.

Lucien s’approcha du piédestal, le regard rivé sur le grimoire scellé. Il sentit une énergie étrange pulser dans l’air, comme si l’objet l’appelait.

— "C’est ici que tout se joue," murmura Hubert.

Lucien tendit la main vers le livre. Dès qu’il effleura le sceau, une lumière aveuglante inonda la salle. Les fresques prirent vie, projetant des images mouvantes sur les murs. Il vit Eldrin, penché sur son ouvrage, forgeant les premières pièces d’or magiques. Il vit aussi des ombres, des silhouettes encapuchonnées avançant dans la nuit, prêtes à s’emparer du secret.

Puis une voix résonna, forte et claire, brisant le silence :

— "Celui qui brise ce sceau accepte le poids du savoir. Mais chaque secret a un prix."

Lucien hésita. Était-il prêt à assumer une telle responsabilité ? Le destin du royaume reposait-il vraiment entre ses mains ?

Il échangea un regard avec Hubert, puis, le cœur battant, il posa fermement ses doigts sur le sceau et prononça les mots qu’il savait désormais inévitables :

— "Le secret est la clé."

Le sceau se brisa dans un éclair doré.

Le savoir perdu d’Eldrin allait enfin être révélé.
