Free Press hero Julian Assange tweeted from the Ecuadorian embassy where he has been detained for many years about former CIA director and Trump’s new Secretary of State candidate Mike Pompeo advocating the murder of Edward Snowden. When we look at Bill Benney’s treatment we must put in context Snowden’s actions.
Pompeo asserts Snowden is a traitor—without evidence. Pompeo asserts Snodwen should receive due process and then executed for the information “he stole and released to foreign powers.” Pompeo goes on to claim Snowden’s acts put Pompeo’s and the reporter’s friends in danger.
It is interesting that we live in a society where despite having a fourth amendment we are spied on like cattle—with little oversight. And these systems that have the potential to completely eviscerate digital privacy are totally insecure as demonstrated by all the leaks. One might wonder when the fourth amendment was amended or how there can be general warrants for mass surveillance??
I know one theory is that an act of Congress combined with Presidential authority somehow magically amends the Constitution and enables bureaucrats to institute programs that may not be constitutionally permissible without following the clearly laid out process for amending the constitution? It will be interesting to analyze who the real traitors are as we get more information as time advances toward infinity.
