This may sound cliche however I think you're stronger than you think. You have an ability very few can. Which is the power of expression in words. I could feel what you experienced from the little you have written. We are all vulnerable one way or the other. The knowing is what scares us the most. Take the earth for example. Do you know that the milky way is like a cosmic pinball. Meteors move randomly every time but none comes towards earth. What if, but that what if will never happen at least not in our live time. We are vulnerable creatures.
From your perspective, your experience has made you to create a protection which is good. You have to take care of you first while growing to be a better version of yourself.
Remember we are all vulnerable to one thing or the other. I hope you find strength, love and guidance in the right place.
Lastly, vulnerability is evidence of our humanity that drives us to the edge of creating a tomorrow that we can overcome.

Yes... Vulnerable creatures we are. Nothing seems to evade our curious minds and every time something does, we get sucked in like it's a black hole. It manifests to something toxic and before we can drain it out of our daily routines and lives is another process. Yet here we are... defiant as ever!
I hope we get to enjoy total freedom once in a while if not always.
