Amateur, in its original sense, means “a lover of something,” not “someone who’s kinda crappy at something.” I think we’d all do well to embrace our amateurish side from time to time– ~~ Emilie Wapnick

Emilie recently wrote about going to music camp where she took on what for her was a challenging assignment.
She told of performing Ring Of Keys and bringing tears to the eyes of some audience members.
Being unfamiliar with the piece I looked it up. This is obviously not Emilie but gives the idea.
Funny thing is the video gave me a tear of my own. Probably because I once knew someone very much like the young character. At one point I even get a little chill, even after several viewings.
I am tempted to go off on a tangent now. I may do so at some point and possibly even share it here..maybe.

Today my thoughts turn to another young girl who once created a tear that was never forgotten.
It happened quite by accident. There was a writing assignment due. Sadly there was also a party to go to with friends. The writing ended up happening late at night with not exactly a proper state of mind for doing assignments. Scribbled out quickly before sleep. Rewritten with quick spelling and grammar checks in the A.M. Tossed on a teachers desk and forgotten.
Until it came back, as these dreaded things always do. Naturally there was a note written across the top in red ink. That is to be expected when one tries to party and do assigned writing.
What the note said was entirely unexpected. Something to the effect of Being one of the most touching stories she had ever read, and it had made her cry.
That is huge coming from someone who reads hundreds if not thousands of these things.
That story would have probably been tossed out and forgotten if not for the note at the top.
Instead it became an example of the impact creative expression can have on others. Not every time. Maybe not even often. The power to make someone feel is elusive for me. Maybe the trick is to just keep creating because you never know when that unexpected tear will fall.

I won't click on the video since I'm at work and definitely don't need to be emotional.

You never know what skills you have unless you try. I never thought I would be writing fiction, but I tried it and actually kinda like it. It doesn't matter if it's good or not. Free the creativity in you is the saying.

I really really love your fiction. I am sure I will throw some out there eventually. I can always just not show anybody the ones I don't like.
Always great to see you pop in. I thought you would be on vacation already.

I hope there is more to the story. I want to know what the writing assignment was. 😉

You know that could happen. Thanks for the resteem that is truly appreciated. Hope the moon is treating you well.

All is calm on the Eastern front but it should get interesting by the end of the week with the next full moon. I'm preparing myself for the inevitable. LoL

You're part of my Pay it Forward Contest submission this round Link

I hope you like it.

Update to this comment. You can find my entry here

I wonder what was written on the assignment that is worth crying. Care to share? You left your readers hanging there. Suspense, huh? 😊

Hey lady, @the-witty-waiter featured you on the @pifc. I don't think I have to elaborate on that, yeah? 😃

Nothing wrong with a little mystery here and there.
You sure are on top of things today. I better get my pifc post going.
@the-witty-waiter is awesome! I am glad he decided to join the fun.

Yap, you better get your entry in! 😊

Yes, you just don't know when that unexpected tears will fall.
Some music scores do bring tears to the listeners, very common with movie soundtracks .

Thanks for your short story.

You probably already know but I've came to your post after reading @the-witty-waiter's participation in the Pay It Forward Contest

Hi thanks for stopping by it is kind of fun to be on this side of the game. :)

Hey there! I did make an entry this week thanks for asking. I try not to skip two weeks in a row. Glad to see you are still playing. It is one of the best weekly events on the platform I think.
Nice of you to stop by.

What was written on that paper ... ..

I came here via @the-witty-waiter featuring your blog in the PIFC.

That may end up being as Paul harvey says "the rest of the story"
Thanks for stopping in. I do love the PIFC

Ah, but you do have me wondering what she wrote and why it brought her teacher to tears. Absolutely...keep creating. : )

Glad to see that you're still around :>)

These little posts of you are refreshing.

Hope you're well. Greetings from Portugal!

What a coincidence that you stopped by. I was thinking of you yesterday. I glanced through your blog and saw a whole new series of posts to binge read. I will be over when SP regenerate again.
I don't think I will be going anywhere. This is just starting to get fun.

Hiya,

Maybe you glancing through my blog made me unconsciously think of you? Who knows...

No matter what, I'm glad to hear that you're still around.

Have an awesome day,

Vincent

Over here picking on my commenters again I see. 😉

Hi @headchange !! @tryskele here to let you know that @the-witty-waiter featured you in this week's @pifc's Pay It Forward contest.

Funny when I post for new/unknown people they're 50/50 on knowing why I'm visiting their page so I came up with the corny line :D I don't usually add my name but we know now it's all about the characters (the number of anyway) LOL. I always feel odd when I have to 'judge' features who are people I know and interact with. I always want to make sure when I visit someone due to the contest I can upvote them and I go through my VP like sand through a screen.

Anyway since I got off topic I love this one. I like how everyone is 'is there more' you got them thinking. Awesome job. It sounds bad I really like they were so entranced by what you wrote, the didn't catch the moral. Looks like the #Freewritehouse is a good place :)

Hi there @tryskele I use to have a corny line for visits. These days I try to ass a bit of variety here and there. I still seems to end up coming out pretty much the same over and over.

I get what you are saying. Honestly it feels a bit odd to be featured. My little account sure can use the boost though. The VP is a huge factor with me as well. I did go ahead and visit a couple with no vote. If they are over the dollar mark or curied it is not so bad. Otherwise I have found I feel too guilty and burn up my vp.

Thanks for the complement. They did kind of miss it didn't they ;) Hard to go very deep in dive mins.
On the other hand it kind of proves the point. You can't always tell what reaction will come. Deliberately creating an emotion is a skill I have not mastered. Oh well like I said just keep on writing and feel fortunate with any reaction. Heck I feel blessed if I have a reader lol
Thanks for stopping by. I will do more visits when sp has recovered some.

You were able to create a great reaction. That to me is the best compliment. You'll get there. We both will. I have not doubts.

I agree we are both very motivated and goal oriented. One day we will look back at these days and laugh.

Yes we will!!

well well well....look who decided to grace us with another post. who is this free for? it sure ain't free for us. are we supposed to be able to hear what those kids are singing?

"The power to make someone feel is elusive for me." haha! you SO underestimate yourself.

UUUUhhhh Dude click the little play button in the middle of the pic
geeesh I know you do that on purpose. not fooling me a bit

ha! still couldn't understand a word they sang. was it good? hahaha

Well knowing you I suspect you forgot to turn on your volume 😊
Of course it was good.

what the?? insults first thing today? I'm offended, that's mean young lady. I can't help if no one told me I should use ear protection when shooting ear-busting guns!
I thought the ringing and not being able to hear for a couple days was normal.
the video thing I;m sorry, I couldn't hear it but come on, a bunch of little kids sqawking about some emotional junk or whatever? how good could that be? hehehe

Oh well gotta have your priorities in place I suppose. Stay in practice you never know when you may get company 😊
Folks in these parts consider visitors a desirable thing. Being the introvert I am perhaps moving to Texas is not a bad idea.

probably a lot more expensive here though, all these dang people moving in has raised property prices really high. but there are tons of good jobs here. the problem is, to get a good one you'd probably have to sit in tons of nightmare traffic!

P.S. thank you :)

you welcome. any time.

Congratulations, you have been featured in the weekly Freewrite Favorites post by @freewritehouse You can find your post here: Freewrite Favorites, Volume 20

Thanks so much for the heads up i am on my way over right now to check it out. 😊

What a great reminder @headchange! The effort of creating (anything) is not always immediately rewarded. But the purpose is in the creation - not the reaction gained. The true reward does come with the naturally occurring emotional reaction every time.

Actually that is the perfect outlook. Taking pleasure in the act of creation itself is a lot easier than looking for external reward. 😊

Brilliant, and I love that you don't reveal what the note is. its good to keep some things as a mystery. The story is uplifting. Don't stop the writing.

Thanks so much! Your kind words and encouragement are greatly appreciated.
Maybe that muse of yours will pay me a visit eventually.😊

Maybe the trick is to just keep creating because you never know when that unexpected tear will fall.

especially the happy tears, I admitted that when I won the judge's choice on my first serious post to the pay it forward which take half day to complete the post, I cried those happy tears. I have no doubt about what you said here. and so glad to know that @the-witty-waiter has featured you in his post for the pay it forward contest this week (hahaha.. I've never made this statement for 3 weeks on featured bloggers)

Well hey there stranger. Is your holiday about over yet? We have been missing you around here.
That was so nice of him to feature my post. The Pay It Forward is growing so quickly. It is harder than ever to get around to all of the posts. I still enjoy getting to as many as possible.
Good to have you pop in. Hope your shop is doing well for you. Is it pumpkin season over there yet?
