Sam would always watch his father move around with the cane, and even in his little boy mind he knew that the cane was a symbol of authority, but he kept wondering why his father had to move around with it even though he never had need for it because his father was still very strong and healthy, and the people that used canes are the aged.
On his 19th birthday, Sam's father told him that he had to work hard if must earn the cane; he told him that the cane he been handed down from generation to generations and has been in the family for over twenty one generations now and so he shouldn't disappoint him.
As Sam walked by his father's study, he saw the cane on the mahogany table, his curiosity got the better of him and he stepped into the office and picked up the cane. It was heavier than he thought it would be, the cane was made of pure gold. the moment Sam touchred the cane, he felt a rush of power, he had that feeling of a man in authority it was there and then that he decided that he must inherit the cane.
