I have lived near a forest most of my life. When I was a little girl, our property was adjacent to state land and there were lots of woods all around, mostly deciduous trees. Then I lived in Montana, and the forest was at least two miles away. Our 15 acres had only 1 tree on it! At least, until my dad planted a few more. There were patches of woods near both the houses we lived in in Minnesota, and now we have lots of forest around our house in Idaho, mostly evergreens. So I am accustomed to living with trees nearby.
My next thought regarding the forest has to do with fairy tales. Forests are often depicted as scary places. Remember Hansel and Gretel? They got lost in the forest and nearly eaten by a witch. And Snow White? She got hauled off into the forest to be murdered, and then when she got away she got lost and got scared. Of course, the animals took care of her eventually, but she had a bad time to begin with. And then one thinks of Sherwood Forest, not exactly a fairy tale, but still, an old story with a forest full of well-intentioned thieves. I'm not sure what I think of that to this day. The Black Forest is famous for its cuckoo clocks. What a unique thing to be famous for! Oh good, the timer is going off. I can stop rambling now.
