I remember you saying something like SM being a better place to earn STEEM than via content, I guess that's not changed in your mind?
It really does depend on the support system a user has on here. I have the same group of supporters on my posts. If Matt (yabapmatt) doesn't come across my post or one day chooses not to show community support my way...then I would be lucky to break the $1 mark..which is equivalent to 3 STEEM. Spending an hour and half (plus) trying to write a post when I really don't have anything to contribute is not worth it.
I enjoy being able to unwind after a work day with some light SM gaming before going to bed. Blogging/writing requires some time for me and time is in short supply these days.
Here is my 'earnings' with about 30-45 minutes of Steem Monsters gameplay, which I actually do enjoy.
Current market says the cards I won is valued at $6.52 USD, or roughly 28 STEEM.
Writing a post would earn me $1 STU (is that what it's called?), maybe $5 STU if Matt comes across it. That is roughly 3-22 STEEM/SP, plus the extra hours spent writing.
I know I won't get gold cards all the time and the market price is not the cash-out price, but considering the time investment, I would rather spend it with Steem Monsters!

You are right about support system, I found it was possible to make your way into those with content, but mostly stake.
They're the new reward cards being given out on the daily quests as a rewards of sort for playing the game. The number of cards you receive is based on the league you're currently placed in. The new reward system does require players to now have a good balance of splinters in order to earn with the daily quests. I'm really impressed with how the SM team come up with ways to combat game abuse and trying to build a game that is enjoyable for everyone, from the smallest to the biggest investors.

The current season and daily quest rewards are these cards, instead of the booster packs, which are now only available for sale.
These rewards cards are limited edition, although the devs haven't yet decided total numbers.
Some fascinating new abilities, like silence and life leech. These cards aren't for sale except individually on the market.
You have to win them or buy them from somebody who won them.
I pulled a gold Daria a couple of days ago.
