Share2Steem Fundition Update #6

Switching to a Freemium model, Updates to come

Welcome to the 6th Update of the Share2Steem Campaign powered by @Fundition.
In this post, we will speak about the latest updates made by the Share2Steem team and give a preview of what is to come.
You will also find some statistics, useful links and instructions on how to delegate to us or support the project via our Fundition Campaign.

First of all, I (@algo.coder) would like to state that I wasn't available a lot this last 2 months so I couldn't spend a lot of time on Share2Steem, tried to do my best to ensure support on the Discord server but couldn't do much more, this will change for the next months so I'm gonna put a lot of efforts into Share2Steem to pursue development and make all the delayed updates, and focus on the application growth and what needs to be done to ensure its success.

Change of Model : Switching to "Freemium"

The current model (Fixed 10% fee + Fee compensation) wasn't sustainable as it required to put some money "in" every day to keep the account afloat.

The current update aims to fix this.
From now on, no more fee compensation will be given to users (all posts made before the update will still get compensated), but to balance this and not impose a fee on anyone, only some features require to give a fee (still handled by the beneficiary rewards feature of the Steem Blockchain) :

  • Receiving the daily upvote from the @share2steem account : 4%
  • Participating in the Curation Trail : 2%
  • Participating in the Curation Pool : 2%
  • Custom Body for posts : 1%
  • Automatic cross-posting from Twitter (without using the hashtag) : 1%

This way, anyone can deactivate all features and use Share2Steem completely "free of charge".

These values have been set to keep the fee next to 10% (as most people have all features activated or most of them) to not have too much of an impact on APR for delegators, this will surely change in the future to be more "balanced", but before that other updates need to be made (details in the next section).

Know that these percentages and "premium" features will change and the goal is to make the fee taken as low as possible for the users, while keeping the application sustainable and profitable for delegators.

Also, the sponsor fee has changed to 25% of the total fee taken on the user's posts. Currently it was 6% for S2S and 4% for the sponsor. Now it will be 75% for Share2Steem and 25% for the sponsor on the fee "chosen" by the user (depending on features activated). So if the user activates all features (hence a 10% fee), 7.5% will go to Share2Steem, 2.5% will go to the sponsor.

The daily upvote from Share2Steem is activated by default (on sign up).
As before, Trail and Pool are deactivated by default and need to be activated on the Settings page by the user.
Custom Body and automatic cross-posting are options available on the social network account page and need to be activated manually by the user.

The Setting page has been modified to reflect the changes. You can deactivate the Daily Upvote from Share2Steem there.

Coming in the next few weeks

1) Bettering the Freemium Model

With the next updates, fee will surely be diminished on some items, and as new updates and features are deployed, some other items might appear. The engagement is to never be above 10% when all features are activated by a given user.

2) Change in the Auth System

All login will continue to happen via SteemConnect as everyone trust the service. But instead of getting an Access Token from SteemConnect and then broadcast the operations through their API, users will delegate posting authority to @share2steem (that operation will be made through SteemConnect) which will then take care of broadcasting the operations to the Blockchain via the nodes. The goal is to diminish the third-party services we rely and depend on.

3) Change in the Payout system

Currently, APR is a bit "unreadable" as it's fluctuating everyday, so that's not great for current delegators, and that's even worse to attract potential delegators.

Three big changes will be made :

  • With a clear objective to increase APR for delegators, 50% of some SP rewards (curation and beneficiary rewards) will be powered down every week and added to the "Buffer" (see next point). More will compromise growth of proprietary SP on the account, so 50% is a good middle-ground. Proprietary SP is needed for delegating to new users hence attract people to Steem, but also increases upvote strength hence giving supplementary APR to all delegators and bigger upvote value to all users,
  • A buffer system will be put in place. Instead of distributing all currencies (STEEM / SBD) present on the Share2Steem account everyday, we will let it build and distribute only a portion of it everyday (between 1.5% and 3%, not decided yet). This way, it will smooth the APR, make it stable and growing (as if the app continues to grow, more should come in the buffer than going out everyday),
  • Distribution of the Buffer will be changed. Currently 80% of liquid rewards go to delegators. After the change : 50% will go to delegators, 40% to @algo.coder to pay for server costs and wage, 10% will go into the @share2steem.fund account to organize contests, etc. and develop the community around Share2Steem. These percentages may vary, the only goal of that update is to increase APR for delegators and make it more stable, hence easier to publicize / market.

This update will be made smoothly, step by step, so that APR stays stable, we wouldn't want to destabilize it when the objective is the opposite. So we won't switch from distributing 100% everyday to distributing 2% everyday, but we will do it progressively, letting the Buffer build up little by little, until we can make the switch keeping a constant APR for delegators.

The ultimate goal of these changes is for Share2Steem to become the most competitive application to delegate to.

4) Modification in the Cross-Post system

As some problems occured with Instagram and YouTube, we will work on authorizing automatic cross-posting without the hashtag like for Twitter, to not rely on indexing by Instagram / YouTube anymore.

5) Business Model

Last but not least (but that will be the update which will take the longest time to implement), a whole new aspect of Share2Steem will be developed and implemented. I don't want to tell too much yet, but it will be complimentary to what is currently in place, will reinforce the community, allow further monetization of your social media activity, while diversifying source of incomes for the application and for delegators.

Thank you for this update. Hope, share2steem will be better!

The ultimate goal of these changes is for Share2Steem to become the most competitive application to delegate to.

That's what I'm talking about, love to see growth and development. Awesome work to the team, steem on.

Thanks, might take a while, but that's the objective and every update will go towards that direction !
Thanks for your support.

Hello @share2steem, can I publish this blog in Indonesian? Thanks..

Sure, go ahead !
Thanks for allowing everyone to have access to the information.

This is a very wise action. Thank you for that. I will do it soon.

@algo.coder

Thanks for this update. I think (speaking as a novice crypto person and a steemit dunce) this all makes sense to me. I found that joining curation trails was draining my VP and RCs that was problematic - all round. As I have said before, I really like this dapp and I think that for people like me, it's particularly awesome and I look forward to the Insta changes.

Thanks for your hard work - I know you've not been available but you've stepped in when you could - I know being part of the behind-the-scenes posting team. Appreciate that.

Thanks a lot for all your help and support.
Glad to have you on the team ! ;-)

Trying to let everyone use the app as they please, take what they want and leave the rest, so we can attract more users of different profiles and horizons. The more diverse we are, the stronger we become !

For Insta, it's necessary as with all their algorithms and banning, it's beginning to become problematic as it's becoming more and more frequent that a post doesn't get cross-posted. I don't know yet how I'll do that, but I will :D

For Insta, .... it's beginning to become problematic as it's becoming more and more frequent that a post doesn't get cross-posted.

Touch wood, I've not had a problem - either from my personal accoutn (handle the same as steemit) and from my Destination McGregor account. I mention the latter because I use / repeat many of the same hashtags and it's linked to a FB account and I've not (yet! happily) had a shadow ban. I've had issues when my hashtags have been more than 30. That's it. I do wonder if it's got something to do with the ownership (Facebook) which sees the posting to other monetised platforms as competition as they try to make money themselves. Just thinking aloud.

I don't know yet how I'll do that, but I will :D

I have no doubt! LOL

Good luck for future. You will surprise me lots. Thank you for update.
