For many people, winter is a miserable time. The freezing cold temperatures, the terrifying ‘bomb cyclones,’ the ice zombies that will kill everyone in Westeros while the seven kingdoms are squabbling over who gets to sit on the Iron Throne – Queen Cersei Lannister must be impeached! Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, winter. It can be very unpleasant.
However, for other people, winter is awesome. The natural world is transformed, creating images of frozen beauty, like these stunning photographs of Niagara Falls. And all that ice and snow opens up a lot of possibilities. You can go ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling, and build a snowwoman. That’s right, snowwoman! Why does it always have to be a snowman, huh? #DefeatTheSnowPatriarchy.
Winter also creates new possibilities for pranks, and one guy in Montreal, Canada came up with something absolutely brilliant. Simon Laprise, a 33-year-old machinist and woodworker, sculpted a car out of snow on the side of the road, to try to fool the snow removers. As you can tell from the photographs, it’s pretty convincing. “I am passionate about building and designing stuff,” said Simon in an interview. “I did the car to have fun expressing my creativity on that beautiful day.” I mean, what else are you going to do in Montreal, Canada? Eat poutine?
During snow removal periods, it’s illegal to park on the side of the road, so it was only a matter of time before Simon’s cleverly crafted snow-car attracted the attention of the police. Two cop cars pulled up to the fake vehicle, cherries flashing, and Simon snapped a couple great photographs. One of the officers even got out and approached the snow-car, to stuff a ticket under the snow-windshield wiper.
Once they got up close, the officers realized they were being pranked, but luckily they had a sense of humor about it. You can’t exactly write a parking ticket to a car made of snow, out so instead, they left a ticket reading “You made our night!!! Hahahahaha,” with a smiley face. “I meant to trick the snow removal guys,” said Simon. “I was not expecting a ticket/note.” Aren’t Canadian cops polite? In America, the cops probably would have panicked and shot the car. Just kidding! They’d never shoot a white car.
Simon also wasn’t expecting to go viral. When he shared the photos online, they blew up on Reddit, getting over 14,000 upvotes and a lot of funny comments – or should I say, punny cop-ments? No, no I should not say that. Sorry. Let’s stick with “funny comments:”
“Do you have any idea why I plowed you over?” wrote one user. “Looks like the cop is about to sculpt a citation on top of it,” speculated a second. “They shouldn’t have sculpted at 45mph in a 35,” explained a third. “Yer a blizzard, Harry,” joked a fourth. “FREEZE!” shouted a fifth. “I’ll let you off with a warning, just snow down next time,” scolded a sixth. “Icey what you did there,” observed one user. “I caught the drift, too,” replied another. “You guys are a bunch of flakes,” concluded one user, with the appropriate name of “RamsaySnowBolton.”
Awesome pranks like this really help you appreciate the cold weather. Why is everyone in Westeros upset that winter is coming? I for one welcome the ice zombies as our new leaders.

I am a traffic data field technician in the south meaning I work on the road at night a lot. I have seen non-prank versions of this in Georgia especially last week along the highway. While driving I’ll see the cops with the lights on at a vehicle that is obviously stuck or abandoned. While in our case I think they are trying to help I wish I could have seen a video of this prank, this has made me laugh today!
