It's almost considered performance art. His team bid on it, so they didn't stop bidding until they were sure they'd won. When they declared a winner he shredded it. So NOW you can probably buy the piece that was shredded for twice as much as the original. I'm still digesting it.

Meaning that the frame has been listening to some remote control signals for 12 years, it has had built-in razor blades and a battery bank to drive it (and the radio signal receiver), must have been rather heavy - and nobody has noticed it until now? It does sound rather unlikely to me.
