yep, a lot of people are just petrified of change and prefer the status quo rather then going out there and living and experiencing the change
I guess a lot of them also fear the tech and want back to nature and magic.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
but clarke put it right and we are going that direction that tech and magic are the same
