If people can develop gambling problems, I don't find it unreasonable to say that someone like a kid may be susceptible to developing an addiction to games.
Sure, it's not money we're talking, but kids may develop problems through other vectors. But I know clinically things can't simply be reanalyzed like this and require robust research in order to pathologize something. Anyways, that's my 2 pesos.
What's worse is that a lot of new games tend to add in "lootboxes" which is basically gambling, I know a lot of people who are hardcore into gaming also spent a lot of money on these things, now it's being advertised to kids (though granted it has always been in my opinion, ever since playing cards started becoming popular, like pokemon cards which are basically IRL lootboxes)
