The Kanto-themed celebration event ended yesterday, and today, February 28, we're finishing the event off completely with a Kanto-themed Raid Day. Featuring Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres in Raids on all Gyms for 3 hours with up to 5 free Raid Passes from Photo Discs.

The Raids appear on Gyms from 11 am to 2 pm local time. I went out around noon with a friend to go a bunch of these. Mostly Articuno as they had the highest presence in the area, and well I'd love to get a 100% Articuno as my first Legendary Bird Trio. We also did a few Moltres and like on Zapdos. I joined a few Remote Raids too. No Shiny Articuno, but I did get 2 Shiny Moltres.
I'll definitely be wanting to trade one of these for another Shiny during a Lucky Trade sometime, that would have a good chance of giving them better stats, considering how low their stats are.
There is a bundle with 3 Remote Raid Passes in the shop for free that you can claim until Monday, March 1 at 1 pm Pacific time.
Later today, when America has their Kanto-themed Raid Day starting I'm planning to try doing a few more Remote Raids at least with some additional chances for a 100% IV. These will be good for trading too as they'll add quite some trade distance.
Team GO Rocket & Special Research
Simultaneously there was a Team GO Rocket event too with Team GO Rocket Grunts appearing more often at PokéStops and in balloons. I didn't focus much on these, only fought a Rocket Grunt once every now and then between going from one Gym to another. I would've fought more if the event wasn't running simultaneously. During this Rocket event you could also use a Charged TM to let a Shadow Pokémon forget the move Frustration. I've done that for my Legendary Shadow Pokémon that I've caught from Giovanni in the past and didn't change the move yet.
After a long time without any Special Research that lead to an encounter with Giovanni, we have now finally received a new one. This means Shadow Mewtwo is no longer available from Giovanni for people who did still have a Super Rocket Radar.
The Special Research starts off with a short message from Professor Willow about Team GO Rocket.
The new Special Research is called "The Higher They Fly..." as you can see in this screenshot.
This Special Research should appear automatically by having a Professor Willow icon instead of the Research icon in the bottom right. If you don't receive the Special Research yet, make sure to check if you've completed all steps of the "An Inter-egg-sting Development" Special Research, or any other previous Team GO Rocket Special Research. Because any on-going one has to be completed before you can receive the next one.
Giovanni will have Shadow Articuno with him when you encounter his throughout March. It's likely that we will get a new one in April, so be sure to try finishing it. When these Special Research were first introduced I wasn't able to finish it and find Giovanni before the month was over, missing out on Shadow Articuno. I do have one Shadow Articuno which is from GO Fest, but this coming month I'll definitely be catching one from defeating Giovanni too!
