Gaming from the past to the present. Revealing a gaming rating system on steemit, and a quick review on railroad tycoon

in #gaming6 years ago

Its been a couple of years since I tried my hands on any management sort of game(take sims for example) The latest one I played was sims 4 and it was quite interesting.

So like a whirlwind, a game that I am sure a lot of enthusiastic gaming individuals who love management games will blow gaskets on, is on the table today.

**Railroad Tycoon ! **

A rating system

Before I actually dive deep into this, I want to say that I would be creating a rating system for the games I drop from now on. I might as well take this to even become a series or a magazine if thats what I see the future holds.

I see a lot of game reviews on steemit, and many are just not complete enough to be game reviews.
Giving and dropping a game review is an art form in itself, where you try to convience people that what you are reviewing is something that is good enough for them to spend their money on. Many many youtubers make a living out of this, and its only proper that any game be reviewed the right and proper way.

Afterall, I wouldnt want some one advertising flight simulator 2004 for me as a beat-em-all action packed sky shooter, when its just a glorified flight instruction game(or whatever they where aiming for).

Gaming is not just a hobby for me, but I see it s a break from reality. So for the past weeks I had been working on something that would shake the gaming sector of steemit.

Say hello, to the gaming rating system!

Gaming rating

So I should mention that I did google “game rating system” and a slew of results came up to meet me, but non was what I was looking for. I do now hope that what I have created would be good enough that I would not be sacrificed to the hordes of hungry gamers out there.

Ill be using percentage to give ratings to games, just like what PCgamer/PCformat used in the old days.

So this is my rating system:

0 - 25% Even the worst gaming addicts will stay away NOT RECOMMENDED

26-55% *A shadow of a game,needs more blessings from the gods *

56-65% passive enjoyment for mortals but don’t expect too much aww

66-75% active enjoyment for mortal

76-85% MCR: Mortals cannot resist

85+ Only the gods can behold such a game

I generally follow a formula when reviewing games. Some of the steps include;

  • knowing the genre the game falls in
  • Intense research on the game
  • possible downloading of the demo of the game, if not for anything other than to play and have a real life feel of the game.
  • A breakdown of steps that I do not wish to disclose
  • A recommendation
  • [NEW] A rating system
With all that said, I guess I can finally jump in to the review I was planning on doing today

Railroad tycoon 3- Business Simulation

Earning an 8.4/10 rating on Gamespot, this game has, and will always be one of the most interesting managemet game out there. Realeased in october 27 2003, a whooping 14 years ago, this game has to be one of the better games of the early PC era.

If you were a kid of the 90’s, chances are you had a toy train growing up, for us in NG though, not everyone had the luxury to have a toy train, but we did get to to see plenty of toy trains on TV. A programmer/designer going by the name of Sid Meier decided it best to bring that toy train fantasy into the PC world, and so the railroad tycoon gaming series was born.

I remember playing a stripped down version of this game in my phone(I think the java version? I cant be sure). And I remember it being so much fun.

See the idea of the game is to build your railroad empire by controlling a public railroad company, connecting cities with your choo choo train, trading goods and services along your trade routes.

The trains in the game range from old timey trains to modern bullet trains(modern for 2003 that is).

Now since many people arent familar with the railroad tycoon series, ill simply lay in the basics.

Controls

Unlike conventional shooter or adventure games, and like most games from the management genre, there arent a whloe lot of controls that function point and kill. Instead, youre given a cmera with whichh to follow and track your trains, your directional keys give you a Gods eye view of your surrounding.

Objectives

Your objectives in this game is to become the very best at railroad business. To that end, you build your empire, one rail at a time.

Pros and Cons

The fact that this game still waxes strong after all this time is a testament to the fun that peopled got from playing this game. While its not perfect, it has a lot of content at least for its time.

You could select from a lot of trains from different countries. Though most people seemed to play the north american passes the most.

If there is anything about this game that sucks, its the fact that the graphics is seriously outdated , though the newer game does a bit more justice to the game.

All in all, railroad tycoon 3 was a solid game for its time, bringing about a little difference when all the rag of the era was rag doll physics and the likes.
*I am not reviewing this game and will probably return to it once I download its ISO file(of cause after paying for it.

Rating

This gets a solid 69% only because its degraded over the years.
