KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) Game Review

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

Welcome everyone, today we are going to review a Star Wars RPG title from Lucas arts and Bioware. A game that i had plenty of fun with, a game that constructed in my imagination the older version of the Star Wars universe.

The KOTOR Games

KOTOR is consisted by two games. The excelent story written by Bioware travels us in a universe where Jedi and Siths are many and fight a war which is based in an earlier war against the Mandalorians. These games were supposed to have a third one added but in its place Bioware and Lucas arts created the SWTOR MMORPG which takes us 2-3 centuries later and finally explains what happened after the end of the two games.

In the first game you play as the prodigy knight Revan, a Jedi who led the republic forces to victory against the Mandalorians. Well you fell to the dark side, lost your memories later and then redeemed yourself while you were uncovering your memories and defeating the Sith. Or becoming the emperor yourself, the game has many paths to follow and many outcomes.

The second game is a different matter. Revan left the known galaxy space, he left behind a weak republic and a Jedi order that was struggling to survive, some powerful Sith lords nearly wiped all the Jedi. You are the Exile, a Jedi general of Revan who become a wound in the force because he destroyed a whole planet. But the force needs you and it is granting you its power again. Your actual mission, well play the game to find out, if you are to take all the side notes and quests i believe you will be mesmerized by the outcome.

The Gameplay

Both games are about the same, the only worth mentioning difference is that in the first game level cap is 20 and in the second is 50. You play an RPG that uses the pause system. There is a huge variaty of attacks and you control one to three characters during every battle. So your party is formed based on strategy and their abilities. Moreover every character companion and the main character have unique skills that can unlock doors and loot boxes, hack computers, or hack enemy killer droids and turn them to their masters. There are more skills of course like treating wounds and disabling machines. All is needed so be careful and think of your party composition carefully.

While you play in both games you are going to enter in a very big amount of dialogs, every time you have two or more choices as your answers and your answers are going to lead to a different outcome for the game. There is light and darkness as in the most Star Wars titles and of course there is a ship. It's name is Ebon Hawk and it is the Millenium Falcon of this age. All your companions have a backstory and they might betray you if they do not like your choices.

Final thoughts and information

These games were so much fun, i was hoping for a third game somewhere in between of the two and the MMORPG and i think i might get what i hope. Bioware announced the remake of the two games and who knows maybe there is a third game that they want to "hide".

One of my first RPG's, great game, I may just need to dust off my old XBOX disc and dive in.

Well i am thinking the same thing.

It's Revan, not Raven. :)

Yes you are right i ll fix it :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the games! I've played both KOTOR games and spent some times playing the MMO, and I have to say, they're some of my favorite games of all time, especially if you like RPGs. More games in this series would be welcome for sure. I also wish that Disney and Netflix would partner up to produce a high quality Old Republic show. The lore is so incredibly rich and the possibilities would be endless!

I think i d love to see animated series of this era too it would be so much worth it.

Have it in my back log and still have not had time to play it. This game looks like I will love it.
