Thoughts on Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Nintendo Presentations - E3 2019

Ubisoft Press Conference -

So, Watchdogs Legion looks like it has a lot going for it. I am sure they are talking a lot of BS when they are talking about how unique and dynamic every character is, and it's always a bit Cringy when people go on about their personal politics in relation to their game and makes me worried it'll be a bit cringy as a result, but the game still seems like it could be interesting.

Beyond that, it's just another Ubisoft Press Conference. Rainbow Six, Tom Clancy, Just Dance, Sports stuff, it's pretty much nothing but a list of games I have absolutely no care for. It was a fine enough conference, but nothing worth noting.

Square Enix -

The thing is I am pretty much avoiding Sony because of all their censorship, so when it comes to Final Fantasy VII Remake I am just not going to get the chance to play it, but to be honest, I wasn't the biggest FF VII fan. That said, the visuals look fantastic. They really seemed to do the characters justice here, and the new combat system seems at least solid and engaging. Unless you wanted a remake that stuck as true as possible to the original, battle system and all, It looks worth getting hyped for.

Otherwise, we got a trailer for a remake of Chrystal Chronicles coming to a variety of platforms, which is neat. Not a big fan, but the lack of Online when that game original came out on Gamecube kind of made it hard to enjoy, especially with the odd connectors you needed to play with friends, you couldn't just hook up a couple of controllers to do it.

And I love the idea of Octopath coming to PC's, but I've already spoken of my dislike of Denuvo before, so I'll avoid going into details. I'll just say look up the issues with it and decide for yourself of Octopath Traveler is worth getting with that Anti-piracy software installed.

Also, I have never played the Saga Games, outside Saga Frontier which I am unsure if that counts as this series, so I am really excited to see these games finally getting a release stateside. No date yet, but this has got me a bit excited.

The rest of it didn't really matter all that much to me. I don't do MMO's, and while I played and enjoyed FF XIV for a bit when it came out, I really don't know why this reveal in the trailer is suppose to be a big deal, but apparently, it is huge if you are really into the game's lore. Oninaki seems like a decent action RPG, though not much info given on it. And Avengers just looked terrible. And I never liked FF VIII at all, I straight up hate that game, but I won't deny at least visually this remaster does look fantastic.

I think how well you rate this show is how much you care about the FF VII remake amd FF XIV, other than that it was pretty much just okay.

Nintendo -

This was, easily, the best conference out of all of them. There were so many fantastic announcements, more information on games we knew were coming, we are getting some solid release dates, and the conference was actually pretty funny. If we are just talking quantity of good announcements, Nintendo is way ahead of the rest.

We have the next two DLC characters from Smash announced, and while the Hero of Dragon Quest is pretty obvious, it's a nice choice all the same. And then came Banjo-Kazooie, which I did not see coming at all, but is fantastic all the same.

To just go over the things I”m most hyped for, we got No More Heroes III coming, and from what little we saw it is indeed a return to the gameplay style of on and two. I love these games so much, and with Suda51 being at the helm again, something he'd slowly been stepping back from as more games came out from Grasshopper Studios, I am really excited about this one.

And we got dates for Daemon X Machina, Trials of Mana and Seiken Densetsu III coming out in the states (The latter as part of a collection that is now out), A New Zelda title is being worked on as well as a bit more on Links Awakening, and I am oddly on board with a Dark Crystal Strategy RPG.

It's a bit sad Animal Crossing got pushed back though, as I'm kind of interested in this idea it starts on a deserted Island and you build from there. Never played one before, so it seems like a great time to jump in.

Overall this is just a fantastic showing for Nintendo. So much to get excited for on the Switch and not really a bad thing shown the whole run time of the show. Square Enix potentially had the best showing if you are hyped for the FF VII remake, but that show was mostly carried on one great announcement and a bunch of other stuff that is hit or miss. Nintendo killed it beginning to end.

There was so much good at the conference, you really should just watch the thing for yourself otherwise to discuss it in detail would basically be me going step by step through the whole thing. Nintendo has done better than anyone else at getting me excited for what's to come.

Pretty much agreed with you on here. Don't know why watchdogs continues to be a franchise, the first two were fairly meh. I'm a big final fantasy fan so I'm looking forward to ffvii remake.

Fully agreed on nintendo, I think they hit it out of the park this e3.
