Jim Carrey Rumoured To Play Dr. Robotnik In Sonic The Hedgehog Movie

in #gaming6 years ago

Dr. Robotnik is one of the most iconic villains in video game history. He is also an unfortunate looking fellow that is obsessed with a fast hedgehog that wears a nice pair of shoes. Who better to portray this character than Ace Ventura.

Deadline has reported that Jim Carrey is rumoured to be playing Dr. Robotnik in the live-action adaptation of Sonic The Hedgehog. Since this report is a rumour, it must be taken with a large grain of salt. Though there hasn't been any official confirmation from either Jim Carrey or the director, Jeff Fowler, Deadline's sources have detailed that Carrey is the preferred pick for the role.

Jim Carrey is famously known for playing loud, eccentric characters, such as Ace Ventura, The Grinch, and The Riddler, so Carrey being picked to portray Dr. Robotnik sounds like an understandable decision. Though I have no doubt that Carrey can portray the character, it will be interesting to see whether he changes himself physically to fit the character. I would love to see a fat Jim Carrey with an awesome moustache.

The live-action Sonic The Hedgehog film will be directed by Jeff Fowler and will star James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. The basic plot of the film will centre around Sonic attempting to stop Dr. Eggman from achieving world domination. If you have played any Sonic game since the franchise's inception, you will get the gist of this film.

Sonic The Hedgehog has seen many adaptations, including within comic books, TV, and the hilariously bad animated film. The next step for the hedgehog is to make his debut in a live-action film. Will this move break the stigma surrounding video game films? I hope so, but it probably won't.

There hasn't been an official release date or a trailer for the live-action adaptation of Sonic The Hedgehog.
