Game Devlog - A New Map!

Hello everyone,

Today I'd like to present to you Miniaturena's new map! The containers were nice and all but the colors didn't pop and the strategy options were limited.

This map is called Suburbia. It features buildings, bridges, ladders and a beautiful garden.

I added a purple-ish tint to the game scene to make it pop a little more.
It's already quite colorful but there's never enough!

At the bottom, we can see I added cover on the ground to fill in the empty spaces.

The higher ground gives you +1 to dice roll so that's a huge advantage to reach the top. A few ladders would get you there.

Now this took me a long time to set up. I had not prepared game mechanics for bridges and ladders. A lot of messing around to get the heights and fragmented move areas to work.

Before you get too excited, the move action is not totally perfect.
Only the ground area detects the cursor so on specific angles it could get hard to move the miniature. The top down view always works though.

I'll be working on fixing that asap.

Here is the better looking version of the map. For some reason the transparency texture of the plants would not work on the game engine. Another bug to add to my list.

Also I stripped the final version of all textures and normal maps, to save up some computer power. The scene was very slow but without the textures it ran better.

I really need to fix this. Plants look pretty neat!

Now I also added the two remaining miniatures. Here is the BAC unit from the Void Warriors. The models are not exactly how I pictured them but I had to work with what I found.

I tried making my own model but it ended up disastrous. I can't even show you!

And here is the White Boot from the SYS troops.

I must say, using Blender is pretty hard. I had a sore hand after hours of using it. I'm only starting to understand basic concepts and I'm not sure I'll fully master it one day! ;-)

Finally I added this little picture for the map in the lobby. At least we can see what we are getting into.

The lobby does feel a little empty for now, but I'll improve it going forward.

That was a tough week. And so many bugs to fix now.
Anyway it fun to see the project move forward.

Hope you enjoy the ride too. Let me know what you think.
As always you can go try it out here. Please bear in mind that there are lots of things to fix this week.

See you on the other side,

Jrej

Sort:

Sculpting first then retopo and then nailing it to a cylinder not working for you?

Have you tested the alpha with the boring on/off one already?

I'm sure you could add a few more containers and things to the container map and turn it into a dock ;D

Oh yes maybe one side could start on a boat and others containers and cranes. That could be cool but I haven't found a way to give it a sci fi twist. Maybe with textures...

Anyway, about Blender, the thing is I'm learning by trying things out. I have no clue what I'm doing. I should probably do a proper course if I'm serious about this...

Playing around works too. It’s how I learned 😝
