Epic Games claims that "exclusives benefit gamers" !?!?

in #gaming5 years ago

There's nothing wrong with a CEO defending his company, that's what he's getting paid for. But this is next level stuff from Epic Games CEO:

Nice try Tim, i'll give you that 😉

But i'll play nice as i always do and look at this issue from both sides and leave it up to the reader to decide is true:

👼 Opinion #1: Epic is the savior of all gamers!

The epic store gives 88% of its revenue back to the game developers. That's significantly more than the 70% the steam store gives! More money in the pockets of developers mean better quality games and more incentive for new developers to join the dance. In the end, gamers win by paying the same price for higher quality and variety of games.

😈 Opinion #2: Epic isn't promoting gaming; quite the opposite!

If and when epic replaces steam as the king of gaming stores, do you trust them to still give up a generous 88% to the developers? What would stop them from giving let's say 65% and then luring in gamers with exclusive deals on a few very high profile AAA games? Up to now steam hasn't employed such tactics even though they very well could. What if Epic's tactics force the industry to focus on exclusivity deals? How does it benefit the gamer having his game library, friends etc broken up between lots of game stores?
