I don't have experience with VR but in the way of games like Gone Home, it's because the cost of unique narrative content is so damn expensive in terms of developer time. Like seriously, I didn't see a single recycled asset. A traditional game recycles assets and mechanics to lengthen gameplay and for strategys/sims that gameplay core loop is essentially infinite.

I love that kind of narrative content that's never been done before...Gone Home, Firewatch, Consortium, Soma... except they all just leave me desperately wanting more of the same and there just aren't that many games built like that.

that's true some games are offen so expensive that mostly can't afford it .. i just look at my childhood memory i could play super mario in simple video gamea that the prize less memories of gaming zone...☺
