5 Infuriating Problems Every Single Player Gamer Has to Suffer!... - Gaming Top 5 - Part 43.

in #gaming8 years ago

Single player games sometimes offer more immersive gameplay and can be very enjoyable, but there are always problems that we have to suffer every now and again.

Myself, I am a single player type of guy, that is not to say I don't like multi players, I just prefer a game that is or has a single player campaign, as they offer a true immersive experience and can suck you in even further with a good story. Take GTA V for example, the single player game is phenomenal, with excellent characters and a very good narrative, but the online game, although fun at first, can end up being very repetitive and boring. That is one of the reasons I no longer play GTA online any more.

With that said, here are 5 Single Player Problems we all have to deal with.

5 - Why Won't You Die?

Dying time and time again can be the most frustrating thing ever. Not during normal gameplay but when you come up against a boss that you just cant kill or a certain level that you just can't pass.
Sometimes its only a matter of dying maybe once or twice before you realise what it is you have to do in order to beat said boss, but other times when the boss or level is abnormally hard and no matter what you do, you keep on dying in the same way over, and over, and over, and over, and ov... Some times, it can be so bad, that some of us will end up lowering the difficulty level or looking up cheat codes, just so you can progress in the game.
As a child, something like this would send me into a state of tears and slamming the joy pad on the floor. Now, its pretty much the same deal. It something that non of us can escape from.

4 – Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.

Decision making in games is what makes the game fun, it gives you a sense that what you choose matters, and in more recent games, you choices can determine how the rest of the game plays out.
I'm not talking about the old text adventure games from back in the day, I mean like some Online RPG games or the Telltale games. Thinking nothing about the choice you make early on in the game, can eventually bite you in the arse much later, sometimes several hours later, and you think to yourself if you should grit your teeth and try and finish the game knowing you may die repetitively or start again changing your decision in the hope that the rest of the game will be much easier for you.
Or it could be that you don't want a certain character to die, but because you decided your character was going to have the same amount of charm as a prison rapist, that character dies anyway and the only way to stop it from happening was to start the game again and actually be nice.

3 – Dying for Stupidity.

So you are quite far along in the game, your life is very low and you decide to make the stupid decision to jump off the side of a mountain, on a motorbike and then wonder why you died after dropping off a 700ft cliff.
This is an all to familiar story in many games, there have been times when I have played older games and I have only had just a crumb of life left on my health bar, and because of stupidity I died. Resident Evil is a great example of this, you have next to no life, you are limping and there is a solitary zombie ahead of you, instead of equipping your gun and killing it, you try and run around it, but it grabs you and... you die.
But then there are the deaths from just impacting a wall, jumping at the wrong time and falling to your death, or loosing control of a car and you end up going through the wind shield. It feels like being hit by a storm trooper that can't hit anything. All this could be avoided if we actually remembered we have little life or concentrated more on the game.

2 – What Problem?

This one relates more to the older games, discs and cartridge type games, you are happy playing along, progressing and you are supper immersed into the game, then all of a sudden when you try and load into a new section or just entered a boss fight and the game refuses to load. It can be the most infuriating thing in the world.
This was some times due to the developers releasing an unfinished game. Although today that isn't much of an issue as they can release updates and patches for such things, but back then, there was nothing you could do. But other times it was down to a scratched disc or faulty cartridge. Remember taking out the cartridge and blowing it to see if that wll fix the problem?
And if you had a console that relied on tape cassettes, you wouldn't even be able to play the game and you wouldn't know until 60 minutes later when it finished loading, and god help you if the cassettes tape got jammed, then the thing will never work.

1 – What Save File?

Again, this is another problem that pertains more to older games, but can happen with modern games.
So you progress quite far into your game, you notice its 4am, and you have to be in work in 3 hours. You save your progress, knowing you can continue playing where you left off when you get back home. You get home, load your save file and it is stuck on an endless loading screen, you wait for an hour in the hopes that it will load but it doesn't. You then come to the realization that the save file has become corrupted. Sound familiar? Its something that can and does happen more often than you think. Although most games today can be saved automatically and be saved to the cloud, the likely hood of that save file becoming corrupt is unlikely, but it can happen.
If you have older hardware like the ps1 or 2 or other consoles that used memory cards to save your game files on, it was an all to common problem of suffering with corrupt save files. Sometimes the save file itself would just be gone, somehow magically the file deleted itself or the memory card had been wiped because... reasons.
Knowing that you put endless hours into a game, just to have to start from the beginning again is the most insufferable and upsetting thing that can bestow any gamer. You would be especially unlucky if you did start a game again after a corrupt save, only to have it do the same thing again.
I actually thought that my old PS1 had it in for me as it kept on wiping my memory cards. It was an arsehole to me.

Another infuriating thing about some newer games is you can only progress so far, and if you want to go any further, the game requires you to do a co-op with one or more other players online. Grr... what was the point in this single player, if it isn't single player?

Single player games are a fantastic way to escape the world and immerse yourself into an alternative one, but you will need to overcome some, if not all of these problems at some point in your gaming career.

What makes your blood boil when it comes to single player games?

Thanks for reading.
