ARMS Game: Boxing Game-Punching is Fun

in #gaming7 years ago

Following most of the existing fighting game designs, ARMS does not make the plot a focus. As opposed to some other modern giant fighting giants like Street Fighter V, Injustice 2, or Tekken 7 trying to bring a campaign mode with clear story and cinematic perspective, ARMS chose the classic approach. This is a game that asks you to just plunge in and have fun with what content they offer.

Nintendo even offers a very minimal description of what happens with the world of ARMS itself. They simply write that this is a fight between elite fighters with the ability to lengthen their hands. The only single campaign-style single-player mode you can enjoy here is the Grand Prix - a tournament that will require you to subdue at least 10 enemy characters controlled by AI with varying degrees of difficulty to declare "win". There is no clear story here other than the effort to achieve the title as the best, but at least, you will meet with a little background story for the characters you use and will you face.

Does the absence of story mode for ARMS have much effect on how much we enjoy it? Inevitably to be admitted, it is very unfortunate that Nintendo is not interested to explore this further. Given the combination of female, male, and non-human characters involved, ARMS actually has a solid foundation for building strong stories, reasons to build rivalries that make them more attractive, or just a more powerful explanation of why the characters appear from all over the world are struggling to extend each other's arms and try to beat up the other face.

Why? Because Blizzard itself has proven, that the combination of strong stories and iconic characters in Overwatch is a recipe for a stronger attraction, not only for the community, but also for those who still lay. Unfortunately, he wasted on this ARMS.

The thumbs up deserve to be directed at how accurate and sensitive the Joy-Con is when reading your movements. It is so sensitive that a small movement is enough to make your character move or hit. But the core of ARMS, like game fighting in general, is a game that needs a separate strategy to win. Determining the right timing when to strike or defend is just one of the few strategies that can be taken. Why? Because each character also has other capabilities such as jumping and doing dash to move faster in a short time. Each character will also have a power bar to launch a special attack that throws punches insane with great damage.

Complexity does not just stop there. Because like game fighting in general anyway, every character offered by ARMS is not only visually different, but also carrying its own unique characteristic. There are characters that are not easily stagger, there are characters that can jump twice, there are characters who can launch a dash with disappeared, and the like. The uniqueness is enough to make gamers will culminate to have their favorite characters respectively. Interesting again? Not only from the uniqueness of skill alone, each character will also be armed with a variant of boxing gloves that they can use. Not only damage, some of these weapons also have the properties and effects of each.

Weapons aka boxing gloves also become an integral part of the ARMS itself. That, just as the uniqueness of each character possesses different traits and movements, it is also designed not only differently from the visual side. These boxing gloves are also divided into more general categories, such as weight, for example. The standard lightweight boxing gloves will be able to move faster, while the heavier ones will move more slowly but are able to "ward off" lighter boxing gloves when fired simultaneously by the enemy. This boxing glove also has a variety of unique effects, such as generating a fire or wind-based elemental attack, freezing the enemy, ending up as a boomerang-style projectile weapon that can be reused, tilting into a laser projectile weapon. Each player can decide to use what sort of boxing gloves they want to wear in every hand.

Broadly speaking, the gameplay offered by ARMS, especially if it is played with Joy-Con indeed feels unique and innovative at the same time. But that does not mean, it comes with no shortage. As a large-bodied gamer who often executes excessive movement, we deeply regret that such games do not feature special calibration features to facilitate that. Until so often it is a mistake to direct the blow because our movements often end up too "big". The desire to hit straight ends with a hook punch that is too to the right or to the left, so it must always remind yourself that the enemy you want to beat is in front.

On paper, ARMS is a "simple" fighting game. That there is no complexity that makes you have to memorize or understand every movement that exists. But this simplicity becomes a unique attraction from it. That as well as Nintendo games today, even beginner gamers can enjoy it from scratch and have fun. But on the other hand, for those who enjoy it more seriously, there is room for it.

Super Multiplayer Experience Exciting

Admittedly, ARMS is not an interesting game to taste alone offline. Without the story mode to explain the story background or add a plus for the universe that they are racik, completing 10 GrandPrix games will be easy to feel boring. Although in the end, you can always increase the level of difficulty that is slow but sure, to offer extra challenges. It is hard to be denied, that the main attraction of ARMS is in multiplayer mode.

Looking sekelibat menu offered, Nintendo seems to make this mode as the focus. You can play this multiplayer mode offline, with the split-screen method, which is cool too can be done using 1 Joy-Con only. But for those of you who have a stable internet connection, the opportunity to fight with gamers from around the world also opens with two separate modes - Party Mode designed for fun and more Match Matches designed for more serious fights.

How Nintendo execute this one mode is deserved to thumbs up. From a visual presentation that not only shows your name and people in the same room, but a visual presentation to it. You will see the icon of the characters you choose along with your spinning name and are in one room together with the character icons and other usernames. The game will consistently locate and install these names to play together. He will also clearly show anyone who has won, lost, or is still busy with the game.

So, what makes this multiplayer mode fun? Because in the end, ARMS managed to ensure that it is not "just" a fighting game that asks you to fight each other to death. Nintendo also injects many modes in it to ensure a refreshing experience, where you are always paired. There is a mode in which like a game of volleyball, you have to hit a ball to land on the field belonging to the enemy team. There is a Skillshot mode - where you must collect as many points as possible by hitting the target that appears in the middle of the field. There is a basketball-style mode where you have to "nest" your enemies into the basket with a slam.

While from the side of the fight, it is not always a matter of fighting 1 vs 1. This multiplayer mode also includes several other modes that make this ARMS tipped more exciting. There is a Free for All fight, where 3 gamers will fight directly to each other in the same arena. There is a Tag Team mode too, where battle mode culminates in format 2 vs. 2. Not just just exchanging blows, you can also help your friends who are being attacked by attacking the main actor. Which is more cool again? There is a mode similar to "Raid". That instead of fighting each other, you and three others will attempt to subdue one NPC character with damage and a pretty dangerous HP.

The only drawback faced by Switch gamers is the fact that this multiplayer mode only supports the region supported by Switch only. If you write "Indonesia" as your region for example, you will be greeted with a page that says that our country is not supported with this multiplayer mode. Conditions that require us to access our account via the Nintendo desktop site and change our home region to the United States to be able to enjoy it. Quite pathetic, indeed.

Best Loot Box System

If you've been tempted enough with ARMS as far as this review is written, it's hard not to talk about another unique segment that we think is worth the more attention. As we know, lootbox seems to have become a "standard" system for many current multiplayer games. Whether it is something that is designed only for cosmetics or affect the performance of the character itself, the lootbox is considered a very effective motivational motor to make gamers continue to taste the games they are racik. The same system is also offered by Nintendo in ARMS, which, fortunately, has no microtransactions system at all. Interesting again? He arranges a system that we think is worthy of being an example for other games.

With a myriad of boxing gloves that can be used by each character, it becomes its own motivation to gather each of them. ARMS builds systems similar to lootboxes, where through the in-game currency you collect through online games or complete the existing GrandPrix mode, you will have the opportunity to get in between. What's interesting is the fact that they are not just making it end up into an "RNG-based" gambling game as it has been so far.

The Advantages of This Game

  • Character Design
  • Unique gameplay
  • Joy-Con accuracy that deserves thumbs up
  • Many variations of fashion, not always a matter of fighting
  • Fun multiplayer mode
  • Cool lootbox system
  • Have a strategy element that must be mastered and executed
  • Twintelle = best waifu!

Disadvantages of this game as follows

  • Do not have story mode
  • There is no calibration opportunity to facilitate your "boxing" style
  • It will be boring if it is played ONLY in single player mode
