Guy's it's amazing what you can find lying about, I have had this plot for 2 weeks today and I have found all sorts of stuff.
I have a massive mound that I have been dreading to see what is underneath it, At first glance, it looks like someone has emptied a house contents all over it.
So today I thought it would be a good idea to see what was buried under it, as I pulled away carpet, underlay and house bricks I found bags of old compost.
Then as I pulled some more away I found plant pots and trays, and the further I went into this mound the more grizzly stuff started to show.
Someone had dumped corrugated roofing, Broken plastic sheets and I even found a pillow.
But one thing that I did find was some old guttering.
I was thinking the other day that I needed to invest in some guttering as I have no water to the top half of the plot as I have to than ball it in a watering can.
The old gutter would come in real handy to collect rain as it fell and it is better for the plants than tap water.
Now the only problem was where would I store the water as I collected it? Well this was another find, I found an old plastic water butt in among the weeds.
I checked the water butt for holes, and I was in luck there was none, I checked the tap, damb, it leaked water, but this is something that I can fix later so I plugged the hole up and got to work installing the gutter to my shed.
I am no gutter expert, but I think it will do the job of collecting the rain, I even found a downpipe that will help the water go into the but.
I decided to leave the mound of rubbish till I can bundle it together to get rid of it in one go, but there is so much I just don't know what I can do with it.
I took advantage of being at the allotment to finally get my potatoes in the ground, a lady I know asked if we wanted them as they had started sprouting roots, they seemed to go for her to bin so I took them and they are now my main crop.
My corn has jumped up in size and tomorrow I think they will be getting added to their new homes in one of my raised beds.
I have been told to wear wellies while I am down the plot, apparently, we have snakes that bite, these snakes are the adders, I haven't seen any yet but while pulling away the carpet I saw what looked like snake tracks.
The whole plot is coming along nicely and we are enjoying every minute down there, My wife has told me we need to take a day off from being there as the housework isn't getting done.
Who needs a house when you have a plot where you can hear the birds singing and butterflies flying.
Until next time my friends, stay safe.
Ugh to the people who leave all their trash around but yay for finding some things you can reuse! That's an ingenious gutter setup. And free compost! :)
I forgot to add that the compost was mixed with clay balls and some kind of roots, I am thinking cannabis but could be wrong.
I have found all sorts of waste that shouldn't even be on there, I told the council member on there and he told me that they have had problems like this before.
I found a newspaper in all the rubbish which says 2016 on it so it must have been from around that time.
how you doing anyway @phoenixwren?
I will never understand people who think the world is their dumpster. At my parents' house several years ago, they discovered that a neighbor was dumping his used car oil into THEIR yard over the fence and into a tree! They had to tell him REPEATEDLY to stop poisoning their tree. Like wtf is wrong with people?
I'm doing okay, hanging in there in this crazy world we live in! :)
That has got to be against the law, that is dumping chemicals isn't it? we take ours to the tip, they have drums there to dispose of stuff like that. makes me so mad when things like this happen.
The world is crazy right now you right, but I think it is what you make of it, we have been doing stuff to occupy our time, we have gotten good at gardening and the kids love it.
There are so many people on the road right now, I thought lockdown meant staying in to stay safe, but it seems like people are not listening to anything the government tells them.
Yeah it is against the law, but my parents just talked to the guy. More than once. LOL.
Are you seeing a lot of people traveling? Feck, people. I understand some of it can't really be averted but keep it to a minimum, hey?
We live on a main road, and normally it is jammed with traffic at rush hour, but when lockdown first was put in place it was like a ghost town, we would see the odd car every now and again, My kids could have played out there it was the quite, but now it is as busy as it was before lockdown.
I go out, but to my allotment and to the shops only, nowhere else as I don't want it and I wouldn't want to give it to anyone if I had it.
We also have boy racers who think it is funny to drive up the road at all times of the day and night and rally, it is really becoming a problem.
