The year is 2018 and our garden is almost toast.
Last year at the end of the season the Hurricane came and changed our focus from eating and harvesting to survival. This year things are starting to grow and we might lose it all due to heat and severe drought.
I'm not sure if you can see how wilted these tomatoe plants are in these photos. Even with water from the city well they cannot rally. The drought has now caused water restrictions and many rely on thw water for drinking and cooking. We will not be able to keep the garden alive. The heat is intolerable. After an abnormally cold winter and no real spring May brought on a heat wave with temps exceeding 100 degrees farenheit.
Without the garden vegatables it will be a tough year. We rely on the vegatables to provide the food we need throughout the year. Generally we can can or freeze enough to offset the expensive cost of food now in the USA.
It really breaks my heart this year because both of our kids were really excited and actually helped plant the garden. If we are lucky we can at least pick the green ones and we might still get a few squash.
The humidity is very high but no rain. You can see the sqaush has powdery mildew and bloom rot. We do have a few sqaush we might pick soon but not enough but for one meal.
