Female Squash Flower

in #garden4 years ago

The squash plant has male flowers, and female flowers, which each bloom for one day only, and are insect pollinated. I'm growing a few squash plants in the middle of my back lawn during this pandemic/lockdown/tyranny.

There she is, open and awaiting pollen from a nearby male flower! Notice the ovary (small squash) under the flower. This will swell and become the fruit and seeds if pollination occurs.

A shot of the inner parts of the female squash flower.

One of my squash plants, with male and female flowers at various stages.

I hope your garden is growing well this year!

That was a nice surprise to see those pop out. They're pretty for vegetable flowers. They're filling in the pothole nicely, hahaha. Can't wait to cook and eat that delicious, organic squash.

Growing in the middle of the lawn? Good way to think outside of the box and make use of more room. You should get a greenhouse!

Greenhouses are great! But not for squash of course, heheh.
A few nice big weed plants could fill a greenhouse of decent stature. Let's get building.

Not my squash! Its too hot here right now that even my watermelon can't even gave fruits.

Where's that, Abu Dhabi?
Sorry to hear that... watermelon are so tasty : D

Yes! Abu Dhabi! The United Arab Emirates. But they say, more heat of the sun will be sweeter! But in this case, oh my! He cant grow fruit but it can bear small sprout only then died!
