Coming out of the closet…with my worms!🪱

Not many people know this about me...

I’ve been a closet worm-farmer for a over a decade!
🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱

Basically...I’ve kept red wigglers...really close by...since people around the world first started wiggling their buns to Gangnam style. 💃🏽

I’ve kept them in towers, tumblers, factories, bins and underground pods.

And I actually currently have a worm factory in my closet 😂

Why? Worm farming keeps me humble and grounded. I realize I know so very little when I peek into the world under my feet.

It reminds me that no modern diet supports conscious-treatment of all life forms or sentient beings! It takes more than just changing the way we eat to repair the damage we’ve done to the web of life.

I’ll get back to that in a few...

Worm farming reminds me of my humanity and my ecological role as a human within the larger organism we call Gaia.

That is because it is one of the most direct ways to work WITH Mother Earth!

And she really needs every single one of us right now to reciprocate the gifts she has given so freely!

So...how can we all give back and stop being so...ummm...dare I say...parasitey?

One way is to grow your own food!

Sustainable farming, regenerative agriculture and permaculture are amazing options!

You might ask...don’t I need to have land to farm?

Nope! Anyone can farm...worm-farm that is! And the final product is black, humus-rich, nutrient-dense...well...you know...poop! 💩

You may already know that soil is the foundation of the food chain.

Soil is akin to Mother Earth’s fragile skin that anchors all of life on Earth.

And this skin layer is eroding and degrading at an exponential rate!

img_4783.jpg

Soil is comprised of countless badass species that create a dynamic and complex ecosystem and is among the most precious resources to humans.

Not just any old soil...LIVING soil!

What makes it come to life?

Micro-organisms and worms! 🦠+🪱= 💩

Plants need living soil to survive without fertilizers and pesticides.

Worms are one of the most important players in the nutrient-cycle of living soil and the cycle of life!

Worms work symbiotically with other soil life to aerate, detoxify, condition, give structure to and add moisture to the soil.

These little dudes have been shown to add nutrients such as vitamin D to the soil...AND they suppress soil-borne disease...yeah I’m talking Earth Immunity!

img_4786.jpg

When we support farmers that use pesticides, monoculture and tilling practices that kill worms, we are supporting animal cruelty.

Worms are animals!

What? Yes! Many vegans are still supporting animal cruelty without even knowing it!

ALL of us are contributing to the death of our living soil by eating most commercially grown plants and/or animals. Even “organic” farmers participate in this mass murder of earthworms.

When Earthworms are killed, biodiversity of the soil and ecosystem suffers tremendously. This means it negatively affects animals higher up on the food chain.

This breakdown of biodiversity is also going on internally, in the soil layer of our gut-lining, through the overuse of pesticides and antibiotics. And we all know what that means for the health of the human organism. And why we think we need pharmaceuticals to save us! 😷 💉

img_4787.jpg

Ok...so enough guilt trippin! Blaming, shaming and complaining only gets us so far right?

Here’s where I see we can be the change and part of the solution...

Imagine if we each did our part in returning these little garden helpers to their vital role in living soil/creation regeneration.

All you need is a small worm bin and one corner of your closet or basement to start turning your kitchen leftovers/scraps into Mother Earth’s protective skin layer.

Pfft! That’s nothing compared to what some environmental experts are saying we must do to turn this climate catastrophe around.

Fun fact: Food waste that decomposes in landfills releases methane, a greenhouse gas that is at least 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide. No bueno!

And even if you don’t believe in climate change, at the very least, you have a great way to learn about how soil is created, which is super groovy... especially if you have children or a curious inner child like I do 😁

img_4788.jpg

Plus...those little wiggly migrant workers will hook you up with free fertilizer for your houseplants and garden as long as you keep feeding them your waste.

Win-freakin-win!!!!

If I’ve managed to inspire you into action and you wanna do your part in becoming more symbiotic with Mother Earth...squirm your butt on down 🪱 to the links below where I have included some info on how to start worm-farming!

As always! Thanks for being here! Thanks for showing up and being willing to learn, grow and evolve!

All my love,

Pachee (poo-flinger and keeper of worm-dudes)
