Biological control of plant pests.

in #gardening6 years ago (edited)

Afternoon Steemers,
Long time no post for me but better late then never I guess.....

As a working Horticulturist I have seen many bad practices in regards to controling insect pests on plants, so today I will share some Biological options I like to use.

Two different species of predatory mites I use, these guys used in combination will destroy spider mite infestations without the use of pesticides.

The mites pictured above come in a vamiculite mixture and are applied by simply shaking the mixture onto infected plants.
In the background you can see the Murraya hedges I treated.

The predators waiting for release to their hedged paradise

After a week and a half of release the spider mite numbers had reduced dramatically and the hedges have returned their normal vigour.

Soon I will be releasing some Green Lacewings to control various insect pests on different plants including huge Magnolia trees and Cacti.

Stay tuned and happy gardening,
Sam.
