Quick Update on my Seed Starting

About 3 weeks ago, I tried to start some seeds for the first time. You can read about my setup here. So far I've had some bush beans, peas, pumpkin, and chard pop up. And some watermelon shoots appear ready to break through. The rest of the seeds don't appear to be doing anything. I had to rearrange things a bit because the pumpkin got too tall, so my light is currently slanted and the plants are arranged in size order.

The chard is pretty weak looking, so I'm not sure if it's going to make it.

I've still got about 5 weeks until planting time, so we'll see how things progress.

Your Chard just needs more water. They all need to be moist all the time when starting out. Not trying to be a jerk but your beans will be root bound and die before you can plant them in the ground. Beans grow really fast. I plant the bean seeds on memorial weekend. The others should be fine. Good looking start.

Thanks so much for the advice. I've never done this before, so definitely open to suggestions. My thought with plants that got too big was to just put them in a bigger container until time to plant. Is that just asking for trouble? I'm definitely going to direct plant some more, this was kind of an experiment.

Memorial Day is hit or miss up here. We sometimes get a hard frost after, so most folks do the next weekend, just to be safe.

Beans are one of the fastest growing plants in the garden. Radishes, leaf lettuce and beans can all be planted from seed by memorial day. They won't mind the frost because they will be in the ground. Frost only hurts plants above ground, kinda lost frost bite in humans. It burns the leaves. Shoot me any questions you have over on discord. Been gardening since I was a little kid. Keep up the good work!

Thanks man. Fyi, I soaked the chard this morning and they're looking a lot better. I had been afraid of overwatering.
