Latest Update on our Garlic & Onion Raised Bed project

in #gardening6 years ago

Good Day Y'all,

I have had a several requests on our YT channel for an update to the garlic and onion raised bed project.  So, I thought I would also share with the Steemit community.  I am still trying to get the hang of how to best use Steemit  and make our little corner of Steemit interesting and of some value to our followers.  Y'all have been very welcoming and I wish I had more time to post more often so I can get better at it, but bills need to be paid so, off to work I go....  Anyways, back to the Garlic & Onion Update!

The garlic and onions seem to be doing very well so far and I have been very happy with the results.   We are only about two months into the season but it looks like we will have a good harvest come the end of spring.  I was a bit worried when we had some snow fall and a couple of days of a light frost.  The garlic seemed to take it all like it was nothing, which is fantastic.  The onions seem to get yellow spots on some of the green stalks.  I didn't know what to make of the yellow spots, but when a couple of my fellow YT creators contacted me and told me not to worry that they will survive I was extremely happy.

So, all in all the raised bed garden is doing well and I have learned a lot.  I am now planning to put in more raised beds for the spring and get to planting once the last of the frost days have past.  I will also see about planting more garlic and onions in the spring so that I can have onions and garlic all year long.   I pray that we will have the same success this spring with other veggies.  Wish us luck!

Thanks for the update! I am growing garlic for the first time and it is currently under a couple of inches of snow. That snow is on top of 6 inches of leaves to protect the ground some.

That is a LOT of snow! But, I am sure the garlic will do fine. It seems to be a really robust plant! Thanks for stopping by! God Bless & Happy New Year!

I'm waiting for my first crop of garlic next year. I planted some this past fall and am anxious to see if I can grow it.

I know exactly what you mean!! I cannot wait. When I planted it I didn't really understand how long it takes for garlic to grow. So this spring I will see about planting more and hopefully I can have garlic and onions all year round next year! Wishing you the best of luck on your first crop! Hopefully we will both be successful and have a litte something to write about ! God Bless & Happy New Year!
