Hey there, fellow food growers. I want to share the latest update from my little balcony garden. It has been my source of happiness watching my balcony flourish everytime I step out there. There’s something so rewarding about growing your own food, even if it’s just in pots on a small balcony like mine.
Let me start with my new calamansi plant, which is already bearing fruit, and share a peek at the other plants that are making my garden journal so fun to write in I bought this from my suki (my favorite plant vendor at the market), and I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw it already had little green fruits on it The glossy leaves and those tiny, round calamansi fruits make me smile every time I see them. I’ve always loved calamansi it’s perfect for drinks or adding a tangy flavcor to dishes. Knowing that I’ll soon be able to harvest my own makes me feel so accomplished. It’s a promise of fresh, homegrown goodness right on my balcony.
My balcony garden isn’t just about the calamansi, though. I’ve been tending to a few other plants. One of my favorite setups is this vertical planter I put together with some lettuce seedlings. I hung these baskets on a wire mesh frame, and they are thriving The leaves are looking so fresh and green, and I can’t wait to start harvesting them for salads. There’s something so satisfying about eating something you’ve grown yourself, don’t you think?
I love how this vertical setup makes the most of my small space. It’s perfect for a balcony garden, and seeing those little lettuce plants grow every day makes me so proud. Some days, I just sit out here with a cup of coffee, watching the leaves sway in the breeze.
The chili pepper plant is still small, but I’m hopeful it will start producing soon. Even if it takes a while, I’m just happy to see these plants growing and thriving. It’s such a good feeling to nurture something and watch it flourish.
Then there’s my herb corner, which is another source of joy for me. I’ve got some rosemary which smells amazing, and I’ve already started snipping off a few sprigs to use in my cooking. There’s nothing like the taste of fresh herbs, and it feels so special to know they came from my own garden.
Overall, my balcony garden is becoming my happy place. Every time I see new growth, whether it’s a tiny calamansi fruit, a new lettuce leaf, or a thriving rosemary stem, I feel hopeful and proud of my accomplishment. It’s a reminder that even in a small space, I can grow my own food and create something beautiful. Writing about it in my garden journal here on Hive has been such a great way to reflect on this journey—I love looking back at my notes and seeing how much progress we’ve made.
I’m so excited to see where this garden takes me next. Maybe I’ll add more herbs for now, I’m just soaking in the joy of watching my plants grow and dreaming of the meals I’ll make with my homegrown harvests. If you’re thinking about starting a little garden of your own, I say go for itvso worth it
