How to turn soil into a super growing seedling soil

It is common for all home gardeners to have an uphill battle in having to create the best soil for you plants. It is best to start early helping the soil 2 to 3 weeks before you start planting.  In general seedling soil is best to help kick start your new plants

You may go to the store and buy the seedling soil. This is however expensive.  There is an alternative and a much cheaper way to create seedling soil.  For a good seedling soil you will need the mix granules should be fine and preferably evenly size. It should not be dense or hard as the seedlings roots need air and an easy partway to grow.

Our normal backyard garden soil is too dense, making it difficult for the roots to grow.  Many a time the backyard soil has weed seeds that also make it difficult for the new seedlings to have a healthy growth.

I have 2 recipes to help you make your own soil.

1. 1/3 soil or compost

 2. 1/3 vermiculite or perlite

3. 1/3 peat moss

 Or

 1. ½  vermiculite or perlite

2. ½ peat moss

It is important to stop weed seeds from germinating. Did you know that weed seeds are on every inch of the garden? The best way to reduce germination is to deprive the weed seeds from light. To do this you will need to cover the area so no light comes through.

One way to do this is to use mulch. Care should however be taken that you don’t spread it higher than 2 inches thick; otherwise you will not allow the soil to get oxygen. As you know all living thinks need oxygen to live. You will succeed in killing the weeds but so too will your loved plant be destroyed.

You can buy the mulch from your nearest garden shop. To save some money you can simply collect all the leaves around the garden. Once you collect them pile it up and use a lawnmower going over the pile. Go several times over until the leaves are about an inch by inch size. The mulch is now ready to use. The leaves will eventually decompose and help the soil much needed nutrients.

What do you think of adding veggie peels to the leaves? We have a compost heap onto which we toss all kitchen scraps, peels etc. It's quite a healthy looking heap, with lots of earthworms.

It is best to use veggie leaves and Kitchen scraps in a compost heap. As for mulching it is better to use leaves and grass clippings as this stays above the ground to stop light to come through . So if you use veggie leave and kitchen scraps for mulching it will give off a bad odour.
