City Tree Dreams

in #gems3 years ago

This is a poem I wrote about 5 years ago now when I was going through a rough time in life. I think its a beautiful thing that others can read a poem, a piece of someones soul they share, and can understand it in a way that it may possibly be just what they needed to read from it. To not feel alone. To feel heard & understood. That there is someone out there that understands just what you're going through. Ya know? :) Let me know, what do you think of this one?

City Tree Dreams

Branches unfurling to the grey sky
Pollution blocks the world outside.
Sirens blaring; nose curdling smells
In this dark city, a Tree dwells.

She ponders of the world out where
Fresh air and oceans; green hills bare.
A City Tree dreams of what could grow
Outside of what a City Tree knows.

But how do you move a Tree
That’s rooted itself so deep
In soil you wouldn’t want to keep?

Roots twisting deep in violent earth
Dirt that’s soiled; seeded with hurt.
Suppressing the growth of what’s up top;
Crack open the cement to make it stop.

Surrounded by the stench of too much death
She can’t grow to be her best.
To leave behind the hate that’s grown
Out of the cold, kindness is sown.

Tired of the day to day
The hate that people throw her way.
Packing up her branches nice and tight,
She gets ready to move on with her life.

She yanks her roots up out of the ground
Crumbs of dirt flying around.
She holds her head proud and strong
And leaves behind an city of wrong.

People stop and stare
At a Tree that couldn’t bare
To live in a city of such despair.

She’s aware of what she left behind
There was love there; though stale and dry.
Bark fell away from her eyes
Exposing the demons that slept inside.

Out to the world she finally travels free
Looking for the lands that be
Utopia for a Tree.

Branches unfurling to blue skies
Greener pastures now; birds fly on by
Deep down she knew her true worth
And that she CAN flourish on this Earth.

This is the journey of a Tree
Her divinity she longed to set free.
There are times we must turn our backs to see
A brighter future for you and me.
