Everybody is endowed with certain abilities. Some are gifted in the world of art, some are talented vocational-wise. While some can excel in the world of academics.
As a teacher, we were trained to bring out the best in our students, we are not to focus on classrooms' ability. But also patiently create interest in what our students desire and find doing with ease.
This is my experience with my student in my low-income community.
They may not be good academically. They may not even be able to speak fluently in English and buoyant in numeracy.
But there is something they can do to help their school inadequacies. Seeing that they lack chairs in the classroom and some of them have to sit on the floor to learn.
They took it upon themselves to amend some chairs and tables in their classroom. I was so happy to see them doing this and I encourage them to work more upon themselves in the area of their strength.
I have learned that no students should be written off, irrespective of their learning disabilities and differences. We must help them to fine-tune their skills and create a better picture of their future.
