This year, as I told in the post of Cristo de Mena, the brotherhoods have not gone out to parade their images around the city of Málaga. The coronavirus has paralysed Holy Week.
Este año como conté en el post del Cristo de Mena, no han salido las hermandades a procesionar sus imágenes por la ciudad de Málaga. El coronavirus ha paralizado la Semana Santa.
In order to maintain the spirit of Christ's passion I remember last year's one. On this occasion we are going to see the procession of Our Lady of the Crowned Solitude.
Para mantener el espíritu de la pasión de Cristo recuerdo la del año pasado. En esta ocasión vamos a ver la procesión de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad Coronada.
It is said that one day, a big storm had a Spanish Navy frigate in check off the coast of Malaga. The captain of the ship, in desperation, could hear and see the bells and tower of a church and thanks to it he found the entrance to the port to take refuge.
From that moment on, the Spanish Armada accompanies the throne of the Virgin when it goes on procession through the city.
Se cuenta que un día, un gran temporal tenía en jaque una fragata de la Armada española frente a las costas malagueña. El capitán del buque entre la desesperación pudo oír y ver las campanas y la torre de una iglesia y gracias a ella encontró la entrada al puerto para poder refugiarse.
Desde ese momento, la Armada Española acompaña al trono de la Virgen cuando procesiona por la ciudad.
This year the sailors were only the crew of the frigate carrying the Legion and some other commands of the Marine Command. When they come with a platoon, they sing the sailor's salve to the Virgin all along the way.
Este año los marinos solamente eran la tripulación de la fragata que transporta a la Legión y algún mando más de la Comandancia de Marina. Cuando vienen con un pelotón, van cantándole la salve marinera a la Virgen por todo el recorrido.
The candles on the throne are lit and stand out in the contrast to the street with little lighting.
Los cirios del trono van encendidos y resaltan al contraste de la calle con poca iluminación.
The porters carrying the throne rocking it in step with the marching band. From this angle you can see how the poles bend under the weight.
Los porteadores llevando el trono meciéndolo al paso de la marcha de la banda de música. Desde este ángulo se puede observar como los varales se doblan por el peso.
In this picture you can see well the sailor's blanket on top of the mantle.
