Good morning everybody! Today we're taking you to another amazing place that our mother nature gave to us all. Tighten your seat belts!
This is Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat and at the same time the largest mirror in the world. This amazing place is situated near the crest of Andes in Bolivia at 3655 meters above sea level. Many people consider Salar de Uyuni as the most beautiful and most amazing place that you could possibly visit here on Earth. And no wonder why. When it rains this whole area becomes one very large mirror and you could get a feeling that the sky and the Earth are merging.
Scientists think that Salar de Uyuni was formed 40.000 years ago when prehistoric lakes evaporated completely. All that was left is salt..a lot of salt. According to some assumptions there is more than 10 billion tons of salt deployed on 11.000 square kilometers. The crust of the "mirror" is few meters thick and has unreal flatness.
Elevation variation is less than 1 meter across the whole area which makes this place so suitable for reflecting light rays. In fact, if you looked straight you would see 129 kilometers of logical nightmare because you couldn't make a difference between sky and the ground you are standing on.
