The giraffe joins the list of animals in danger of extinction
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature released last week that giraffes are in danger of extinction.
Its population has declined 40 percent during the past 30 years due to illegal hunting. Currently there are approximately 97 thousand of 600 thousand giraffes.
They use the giraffes hunted to make sandals, drums and clothes with their skin, thread with their hair, musical strings with their tendons, fly swatters with their tail and also eat their flesh.
The three main reasons why giraffes are in danger of extinction are:
Illegal or furtive hunting.
The loss of habitat. This is due to deforestation, the increase of the human population, the change of land use and the expansion of farming and livestock activities.
Civil problems that involve violence or military and paramilitary operations.
The products derived from the giraffes are very demanded, which encourages the hunting of these animals
