We should always give thanks to God, no matter what, because there is always something we should be grateful for.
Not all conditions we are in are pur in are by God. We do have a choice and a lot of times we don't make the right choices ( which we should always go to God first before making any choices so that He can direct us), which lead us to distruction. But even then it's not to late to ask God for help and His guidance.
I hope that helped, depending on what you are going through because we all are going through different stages of life, and we ALL face difficult chalenges, and some are worse than others.
