Manager's Corner: The Vicissitudes of Ranked Play

It's been nearly six months since ranked play was released for Genesis League Goals, and a few months of receiving "full rewards" from ranked games. It has been a bumpy ride, but what is the state of the game right now? With both of my teams comfortably in global, playing mostly against bots and making around 2000 GLX per day from winning almost all of my games, it is a steady and relatively stress free way to earn in the hive ecosystem, amidst all of the turmoil. The occasional match against other players can be challenging and fun, but I find myself looking for the next opportunity to play against a bot, which is probably the case for most.

How would the game be for new players, or players at lower tiers though? Of course, they make less GLX from wins and also get fewer wins, but for them also, playing against "Player 2" is the most profitable option, lest they accidentally run into global teams and get thrashed. But I assume that each win must be more difficult and thus, more rewarding from a gameplay perspective. It makes me think we need tournaments to be released soon, to recreate this "pure PVP" environment that no longer defines ranked play.

We are at an interesting point in the history of the game. GLUSD is at 37 cents, packs at 42 cents, some gold foils are at 30 cents, but meta players retain some value at least. The game has a record low number of users it seems, and almost everyone active is hanging out in global. We are all waiting for key gameplay updates that might let us finally stop describing the game as a "failure", even though I don't believe it to be a failure. The advertisement is a failure though, as we need a trickle of players joining us, and not just some miraculous floodgate moment in the future. The game is dying now, as we wait for advertisement and updates.

Still, from an individual perspective, it can be profitable to farm GLX each day, it is like a continued GLX airdrop that you must make an effort to get. It's fine enough for now, but we need a better development pace for this game. Everything is so slow because 3+ games are being built at once, and I wish there was more transparency over where the development time is actually going. This game has great potential, don't let it die in its infancy!

With all that's been said, I think the devs deserve praise for all that they have done with this game, but the ball needs to keep rolling, otherwise things stagnate very fast in this space, and the people need to see profit to get excited. That's the sad reality of the capitalism we all live in, people don't enjoy losing money or getting nothing for their effort, and its the same in crypto. My 2 cents! 😏
