Hey All,
Till date, I’ve been using the 15 GB of free storage that comes with every Google account. This space is shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. And I am pretty sure most of the gmail users will be using the free space no doubt about it. And this is until when you get to see this message in your gmail saying..
Your Gmail will stop working in 28 days
I have used all 15 GB of the storage that comes with your Google Account. This means Google Photos, Google Drive, and device backup have stopped working. Ultimately my Gmail will also stop working in 28 days. Here are the different plans avaialble and the cost associated to it.
Once you see the above warning you have two options either cleanup the space until your total storage usage is under 15 GB. Or get more storage with a Google One membership. Before I bought the membership; here is my storage spread accross different google app services.
Service | Storage Used |
---|---|
Google Drive | 145.33 MB |
Gmail | 4.75 GB |
Google Photos | 9.4 GB |
Device Backup | 49.85 MB |
Google Photos is the one that takes most of the space and hence if you did like to be in the free limit ensure you the backup of photos from your mobile device off so that the space of google photos is not consumed and rather you benefit from the large space availalbe on your mobile device. Anyways, I had decided to try the memembership for a year and see how it goes as it just costed me around Rs.479 [approx. $6] for 30 GB for a Year - which is like Rs.40 per month not a bad deal at all, I would say. Now I dont need to worry about all the different warning messages indicating to review my different google apps and clear space from them. Here is how my google one storage manager looks like with almost 15 GB free now...
Earlier, I was always worried about running out of space and had to constantly decide which photos to keep and which to remove. Also at the same time, I did like whenever the Google Photos app shows us those old memories, it feels truly nostalgic. Each picture takes us back to a different moments like a family trips, celebrations, random selfies, and the little joys I had forgotten about. Now, I don’t need to delete any photos or turn off the backup. Thanks to the cheap google one lite plan.. lets see how far I can leverage the space now... Are you guys also using any of those google one plans or leverage the FREE 15 GB plan... Cheers

totally felt that Gmail countdown panic when photos ate most of the space, and your Rs 479 for 30 GB choice is solid. I did the math, forty a month for peace of mind and no more delete delete anxiety :). I keep auto backup on because those memories pop ups are gold, so the upGRade beats spending weekends scrubbing old mails and large attachments. More brain space for powerups and curation than cleaning inboxes.
Thank you for doing this, and sharing about it.

I have been using 100gb plan from last few years and I think this 30gb plan is new and I didn't know about it. Hope it helps you manage your storage well and this comes with a good discount
good to hear you using 100gb plan.. I was of the opinion many would be using the free plan. how much do you pay for a year.. cheers
I pay 130/- per month, deducted from my credit card. I have been thinking of switching it annually, but I am too lazy to do that.
I have that plan myself. I have to say I am a Google man but I still am holding out from going all in with the phone. The iphone is staying for now
