Google is adding support in the Android platform experimenting with a new feature that will encrypt DNS requests & will also prevent network attacks.
The new technology is called DNS over TLS; its new new experimental protocol. This new protocol will encrypt DNS traffic. It works to HTTPS & HTTP.
This technology is written to hide the DNS requests the user is making. The DNS has been the weak sport of HTTPS.
When traffic is run through HTTPS an attacker can still see the DNS requests. If these requests are also hidden the user's privacy is pretty much fully protected.
There were two code comments that were discovered by an Android developer, one was a global setting and the other was a setting to control DNS over TLS.
Google has not come out and publicly say if this new DNS over TLS has been added to the OS. I bet that support and documentation will soon follow.
