This post is a response to the question ["What is the importance of expertise?"] (https://peakd.com/gradnium/@jacewat/week-15-questions-why-we) posed by @jacewat.

The important of expertise is so that we can continue to grow in different aspects like science and literature. If we have no experts, we have no one to lead more research studies. Our globe would be at a permeant stand still if everyone was mediocre at everything. Instead, a lot of people go to college to gain knowledge on the path to become an expert in a field of their choosing. We have experts to move the world forward and make things more efficient, cost effective, and sustainable.

General Expertise and Expert Power

There is a difference between general expertise and expert power. A person with expertise is someone with great knowledge in a certain area of study based on experience or research. Expert power is a concept in which a certain person has more knowledge on a certain area than everyone else in that environment. General expertise I think is a great tool to have so that we have people that can help push our country as well as the globe in a better direction than we are currently going. Expert power I think can be a good or a bad thing. It is great because that person has a wealth of knowledge that can potentially do great things for our people or our economy. On the downfall, I think they could potentially can do not so great things. For instance, if the person with expert power does not keep learning and moving with the times, that not only hinders the person, but everyone that is working under him as well. If the person has to much power, they can always turn harmful instead of doing good things. Overall, expertise is very important. General expertise and expert power can be great things that help us move the globe forward if we are using them the right way.
