What are a few characteristics shared by all entrepreneurs regardless of their specified field or opportunities that they pursue?
No matter what an entrepreneur is selling or pursuing, there are a few certain characteristics that, in combination, differentiate them from the rest of the population. In order to be a successful entrepreneur, in my opinion, one must be creative, insightful, and willing to accept failure. Without the ability to think up novel and creative products or procedures, an entrepreneur will not make it far. In fact, creativity is the very foundation of being an entrepreneur. Most people in the entrepreneurial field actively sought out ways to improve their living conditions in a way that no one had ever thought of before. Which is how they ended up where they are now. They pitched a new idea, convinced people to buy into it, and are now profiting from their own creativity. But what got them this far is not simply the emergence of a fresh and fascinating idea. What go them this far was their ability to anticipate changes in consumer habits or preferences and effectively market their idea or approach. Not every idea has legs right off the bat; a true entrepreneur is able to observe the interactions between people and their environment and mold their ideas to better represent their understanding of those interactions. That is where adaptability comes in as well. If every entrepreneur bailed on their ideas the moment they heard the word “no,” then society would be without the considerable innovations and streamlined processes we know today. Think about Thomas Edison. Of all of his contributions to society, Edison is best known for the invention of the light bulb. Now, while we all know light bulbs to be common objects that we often take for granted, there was a time when harnessing and focusing energy into one single object seemed impossible. It took Edison hundreds, if not thousands, of attempts to perfect this process and give us the light we all know and love to this day. If he had given up after the first try, we may have gone without this luxury for decades, or possibly even completely. This is what made Edison such a successful entrepreneur. He was able to creatively devise a solution to a common problem and work tirelessly to perfect it. Therefore, these are the basic characteristics all entrepreneurs must contain in order to truly impact society.
