Recent weeks has been quite intense for the Gridcoin community !
Gridcoin
For those who do not know the Gridcoin crypto-currency, it is a currency that pays users for their participation in BOINC. And BOINC is a platform dedicated to volunteer computing. The purpose to volunteer computing is to lend the power of your computer to help science projects. One project is dedicated to finding new drugs, another is searching for new prime numbers (The complete list is here). For those who want to know more about Gridcoin I refer you to the official website.
The millionth block
Each figure is an important step for a blockchain and The millionth block of the Gridcoin blockchain will arrive in less than a week. With some celebrations in perspective! As write this post, the block 998444 has been reached, there are only 2255 left !
Branding Update
The logo of the currency will also change, in favor of a simpler and more easily recognizable image. An active participation of the community is necessary to build and validate this new logo:
Moreover, a poll is in progress to determine the future color of the logo.

Active developers
The Gridcoin client is very often updated. Here is a chart of the different versions used in time.
In the latest version, they also significantly reduced the number of lines of code and the compilation time for the client!
The Coin
The creation of two commemoratives coins. One will be given to the lucky one who stake the millionth block and another to the gridcoin fundation. I hope that the 3D model will be released soon, perhaps I will print my own Gridcoin ;)
I can not wait to know who will stake the famous block... It's very nice to see such an invested community. Gridcoin is perhaps not the currency that will make me rich, but it is clearly the one I want to see grow!

It depends what you call rich, but I certainly made a fair wedge from Gridcoin, even at it's current low price.
